Frank Capra made this film in 1941 before he went off to make films for America's war effort, but it wasn't released until 1944. Adapted from the hit play by Joseph Kesselring, this frantic black comedy shows Capra at his best as a master of mood and timing. Actresses Josephine Hull and Jean Adair reprise their Broadway performances as two gentle old ladies who poison men with elderberry wine to put them out of their misery. Cary Grant plays one nephew, a normal guy who just gets wind of their little hobby and tries to get them to stop, while Raymond Massey plays another, a villain just escaped from jail. Capra encourages the cast, especially Grant, to give a somewhat more outsized performance than one might expect. But made during the war years as it was, this overstated comic approach to killing was probably cathartic. --Tom Keogh2) Description
You'll die laughing! Frank Capra directs Cary Grant, Raymond Massey, Peter Lorre and stellar cast in the hit Broadway farce about a nutcase family with well-intentioned homicidal tendencies.

1) Insanity runs in my family...it practically gallops! [Rating: 5 out of 5]
This movie is perfection. The writing, direction and the casting raise this movie to a level few others are at. Jack Carson and James Gleason together is worth the price of the film. When you add Lorre, Massey, Hull, Adair and of course, Cary Grant, Pricilla Lane and Edward Everett Horton, it is pure splendor. This is a movie for the ages.2) Arsenic and Old Lace [Rating: 4 out of 5]
For a older movie, this copy from Amazon looks good. I Love this movie. Cary Grant appears as charming as ever. His aunts are sinister, yet cute and funny. I also enjoyed seeing Peter Lorre.3) Arsenic and Old Lace [Rating: 5 out of 5]
This is a wonderful movie. Anyone who loves old slapstick will love this movie.4) arsenic and old lace [Rating: 1 out of 5]

This movie is a classic! Cary Grant at his best!!!!! Need a good movie for family night? Get this movie! Need a good laugh? Get this movie!Hollywood writers at their best here. Today's so-called comedy writers could learn a lot from the writers of old!!
