Don Coscarelli directs and Bruce Campbell stars as the King of Camp in this intentionally over-the-top schlockfest. Bubba Ho-Tep is partially about Elvis Presley and partially about the title character, an Egyptian cowboy zombie, but mostly it is about camp. The movie is equal parts story and back story. We learn through narration and flashback how Elvis didn't really die, ending up instead in a rest home in East Texas with JFK (played by Ossie Davis), who was dyed black and had his brain removed, presumably for reasons of national security. Campbell and Davis realize that something strange is going on when their rest-home compatriots start dropping off suspiciously. The whole movie leads up to a final showdown to the death with the Egyptian cowboy zombie who has been sucking the souls of their fellow residents because he thought no one would notice. The movie unfolds a bit slowly; it is, after all, a geriatrics-fight-Egyptian-cowboy-zombie movie. However, one wishes this self-conscious movie's pacing took its cue from the atypically fast-moving zombie instead of from the senior-citizen Elvis and JFK. In the end, though, Campbell is flawless as the aged King; his accent, intonations, glasses, and trademark karate are at the same time sincere and over the top. --Brian Saltzman2) Description
Mud Creek, Texas, is about to get all shook up. When mysterious deaths plague the Shady Rest retirement home, it's up to an aging, cantankerous "Elvis" (Bruce Campbell) and a decrepitand black"JFK" (Ossie Davis) to defeat a 3,000-year-old-Egyptian mummy with a penchant for sucking human souls! Can the King show the world that he can still take care of business?

1) So Bad It's Good [Rating: 3 out of 5]
This movie is so bad it's like a bad accident--you can't take your eyes away. The entire premise is ridiculous to the point of hilarity. Don't watch this expecting a really great movie. But the acting is mostly good, and it is entertaining. If it hasn't already, this movie will certainly become a cult classic.2) Long Live Bruce Campbell [Rating: 5 out of 5]
I hesitate to write a review on this film after reading all of the other reviews on the same. However . . . I simply couldn't resist the temptation to insert my two cents' worth.I LOVE this film. It's one of my "feel good" films. And, I agree with a couple of the other reviewers in that I also believe/feel that this film is multi-layered. It's funny and outrageous and also incredibly saddening. I am biased because I think Bruce Campbell is fabulous. I both admire and envy him. He's a very talented man. To me, BUBBA HO-TEP is outrageous and cheesy and wonderfully inventive and just plain old good adult fun.Buy it if you need a good, guilt-free giggle.3) Two kinds of People [Rating: 5 out of 5]
I use to believe the saying that there are "two kinds of people in this world...bla bla bla" to be trite and superficial, that is until watching this movie and reading the reviews about it. Bubba Ho-Tep has instilled me with hope that there may still be a glimmer of creativity left in American film making. The avalanche of horrible films made each year is depressing. I would really rather stay at home and watch the Turner Classic Movie Channel than go see the garbage that passes for film making these days. Bubba Ho-Tep is a wonderful film full of humor and pathos. The story line is merely a facade for a tender movie regarding a persons essence and dignity. It is also nice to see Elvis dying the death of an evil fighting hero than a bloated drug addict dying on a bathroom floor. In the end, there are two kinds of people - those that like Bubba Ho-tep and those that do not. Personally, I just prefer not to associate with those that do not.4) cult classic [Rating: 4 out of 5]
Very off the wall. But if you like off the wall and Bruce Campbell then this is the movie for you.I give it 4 stars.5) best Horror/Drama/Comedy/Bruce Campbell movie ever [Rating: 5 out of 5]
