As a producer, Jerry Bruckheimer makes movies for guys, mostly action films like Top Gun and Gone in 60 Seconds. The ones he makes that feature women, such as Flashdance and now Coyote Ugly, broaden their appeal with a fondness for "strong women." For Bruckheimer, that means self-determined, attractive women who don't need men to get what they want. Is there anything sexier than that? In Coyote Ugly, the charming young waif Piper Perabo stars as Violet, a New Jersey waitress who moves to New York to make it big as a songwriter. She has absolutely no idea how the music business works, relying instead on her faith in her own abilities. In order to make ends meet, she gets a job in a bar called Coyote Ugly, where the bartenders are scantily clad women who dance on the bar and order around their mostly male clientele. Really, they are strippers who don't have to take off their clothes. In fact, the owner (Maria Bello) orders them to enact the first rule of strip clubs: "Appear available but never be available." Bruckheimer is smart enough to focus on the naive girl instead of the seamier side of the story, following her as she realizes her dream and picks up a disposable but nice man along the way. Further "empowering" the female figures in the film, Zoe (Tyra Banks), the bartender whom Violet is replacing, leaves in order to go to law school. See? They're as smart as they are sexy! Then there's John Goodman, who turns in an absolutely charming performance as Violet's concerned father. This is a sweet and inoffensive film as long as you don't think too much about it. --Andy Spletzer

Average Customer Rating: 3.5 out of 5
1) Coyote Ugly - One really hot movie [Rating: 5 out of 5]
One really good movie. Very motivational if you have a goal to work toward. The only thing I did not like about the movie was that the boyfriend character in the movie did not like the job the main character was doing by working at the bar. It took a slice of the romance out of the movie. Other than that, very motivational and romantic.2) Great Movie [Rating: 4 out of 5]
I love this movie,i watched it the first time with my best friend and then realized that i had to have a copy of it because its such a great movie3) One of the Best movies I Have Ever Seen [Rating: 5 out of 5]
I have watched this movie with my daughter about a million times over the last 5 years, and I can honestly say that it never gets old! The acting is top-notch, and I do believe that this is defintely John Goodman's finest performance. The movie will leave you feeling warm at heart over and over again. The soundtrack for the movie is also of high quality and most of it is integrated into the movie at the right time. A few people have been giving negative reviews on here about this film, and I can just say that I don't agree. On the contrary, what more could you want from a film that doesnt try to be too much, and is mainly just a down to earth story about a small-town girl trying to make something of her life in a big city. There is nothing in the movie that has a WOW factor to it, but that doesnt retract anything from the story to me. If you haven't seen it, you could do a lot LOT worse than to buy this movie.4) love it or hate it [Rating: 4 out of 5]
This film is a must-see. With gorgeous women for the lads, and an upbeat girl-power can-do message for the girls, you cannot fail to enjoy this movie.A pumping soundtrack and brilliant choreography make you want to start dancing on the Coyote Ugly bar with the stars. Unknown Piper Perabo is obviously destined for great things (think younger Sarah Jessica Parker) and Adam Garcia is well sexy as the prime australian rib she auctions off. Tyra Banks makes an appearance and Maria Bello gets her arguably most important role to date. The message behind this movie goes something like: "life may suck at times, but it can be fun if it sucks with the right people". This is the film for all the underpaid, under-appreciated gophers of society. We do what we have to to get by and Coyote Ugly shows that all of us can make it.5) Coyote Ugly (Unrated Special Edition) [Rating: 4 out of 5]
Just a warning that the unrated version includes nudity and a sex scene not shown on the rated release. So don't buy it for a kid who loves the music and dancing. The adults, on the other hand, will be happy.
