First sequels are the true test of an enduring movie franchise, and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets passes with flying colors. Expanding upon the lavish sets, special effects, and grand adventure of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry's second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry involves a darker, more malevolent tale (parents with younger children beware), beginning with the petrified bodies of several Hogwarts students and magical clues leading Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Rupert Grint), and Hermione (Emma Watson) to a 50-year-old mystery in the monster-laden Chamber of Secrets. House elves, squealing mandrakes, giant spiders, and venomous serpents populate this loyal adaptation (by Sorcerer's Stone director Chris Columbus and screenwriter Steve Kloves), and Kenneth Branagh delightfully tops the supreme supporting cast as the vainglorious charlatan Gilderoy Lockhart (be sure to view past the credits for a visual punchline at Lockhart's expense). At 161 minutes, the film suffers from lack of depth and uneven pacing, and John Williams' score mostly reprises established themes. The young, fast-growing cast offers ample compensation, however, as does the late Richard Harris in his final screen appearance as Professor Albus Dumbledore. Brimming with cleverness, wonderment, and big-budget splendor, Chamber honors the legacy of J.K. Rowling's novels. --Jeff Shannon2) Description

Average Customer Rating: 4.0 out of 5
1) Great Movie [Rating: 4 out of 5]
This is a fun movie and it is fun to watch how the relationships have changed and grown from the first movie. Ron and Hermione are starting to show signs of future sub plots.2) Blu truly is the new black! [Rating: 4 out of 5]
I've already seen this movie on regular DVD and it was awesome then. Now it's just icing on the cake to be able to see it on Blu-ray! If you have the right set up then you are in for a treat. It's not perfect I'm sure some of the video file geeks out there can complain about black levels, and color on certain scenes but to my eye (and I'm pretty picky about picture quality) the movie just looked amazing. If you're a Harry Potter fan you owe it to your self to watch them again in Blu-ray.3) Great film but UK BOGOF buyers beware! [Rating: 4 out of 5]
If you buy one get one free Amazon will put the value of both Blu-rays on the customs declaration ($39.90 rather than $19.95), meaning you will get hit with a Customs fee and handling charge. This came to £12.26 for me and Amazon basically said tough. This charge was more than one of the films on their own meaning this is no bargin for non US citizens.4) Pretty good [Rating: 4 out of 5]
The first movie was the best. It followed the book pretty well. This movie isn't bad as far as relating to the book. If you haven't read the book, you wont know the movies faults & should love it. Great for the whole family! It holds your interest & is very intertaining.5) Harry ventures into the Chamber of Secrets [Rating: 5 out of 5]
"Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" is an excellent sequel, superior and darker in tone than "Sorcerer's Stone." Daniel Radcliffe has grown as an actor, along with Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) There are special effects, but they don't overshadow the story's central mystery. Who is the heir of Slytherin? What dwells in the Chamber of Secrets? When I went to see "Chamber of Secrets",it was to celebrate that I was no longer working for a Christian school that labeled the series demonic- and to look at Kenneth Branagh. Branagh shines as the conceited pretty boy Gilderoy Lockhart. He's marvelously smarmy. In "Chamber of Secrets", Harry is warned to not return to Hogwarts by a house elf. Bravely,he returns anyhow. Students are being petrified. He hears menacing voices&sees bloody writing on the walls. Ron's sister, Ginny, also has a creepy crush on him. In the end,he confronts a giant snake, rescues Ginny, and battles Voldemort's younger, ghostly self. There are disturbing sequences-such as Harry&his friends being taught to cut up mandrake roots, which resemble infants. Harry also meets Moaning Myrtle,a girl who was killed in the bathroom. Possession is hinted at with the characters of Harry and Ginny."Chamber of Secrets" is one of the better Harry movies. It's stronger than its predecessor, and worth venturing into-if you dare!
