One key point: if you can get over the natural gag reflex of seeing hundreds of rodents swarming over a restaurant kitchen, you will be free to enjoy the glory of Ratatouille, a delectable Pixar hit. Our hero is Remy, a French rat (voiced by Patton Oswalt) with a cultivated palate, who rises from his humble beginnings to become head chef at a Paris restaurant. How this happens is the stuff of Pixar magic, that ineffable blend of headlong comedy, seamless technology, and wonder (in the latter department, this movie's views of nighttime Paris are on a par with French cinema at its most lyrical). Director Brad Bird (The Incredibles) doesn't quite keep all his spinning plates in the air, but the gags are great and the animation amazingly expressive--Remy's shrugs and nods are nimbler than many flesh-and-blood actors can manage. Refreshingly, the movie's characters aren't celebrity-reliant, with the most recognizable voice coming from Peter O'Toole's snide food critic. (This fellow provides the film's sole sour note--an oddly pointed slap at critics, those craven souls who have done nothing but rave about Pixar's movies over the years.) Brad Bird's style is more quick-hit and less resonant than the approach of Pixar honcho John Lasseter, but it's hard to complain about a movie that cooks up such bountiful pleasure. --Robert Horton

1) A Cooking Rat? How Pixar Proved Me Wrong [Rating: 5 out of 5]
When I saw the teaser for this on the Cars DVD, I was actually quite dissapointed. A cooking rat? Pixar was trading superheroes and stock cars for a rodent and cooking utensils? And then I went and saw it. The five stars it gets are more than well earned. While I can't put my finger on exactly what made it so good, I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent in that theater. The voices were good, the music adds a very nice aspect to the film, and Anton Ego is one of the best characters Pixar has cooked (I'm not trying to be funny, I swear) up yet. The animation is ever improving and the dialogue was snappy and funny. It won best animated feature for 2007, but I might go so far as to say it's the best animated feature in film history.2) A Masterpiece!! [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Pixar has made terrific movies over the last decade, this one is one of their best ever! The story of a small mouse with the desire to cook and just be different from his peers is moving. The photography is superb as well as the sound. It offers the option to see it in Spanish, French and English. The plot is very easy to follow for small children and very entertaining! We have enjoyed this movie very much.3) Great movie - even better in Blu-Ray [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Some movies in HD (either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray) look and sound only marginally better than their standard definition counterparts. RATATOUILLE, however, is one of those movies that can really be appreciated even more if you are fortunate to own a Blue-Ray player.I have watched both the standard def and the Blu-Ray versions on my Blu-Ray player. The Blu-Ray version looks better than the standard def version (although the standard def version looks quite good too.)For me, HD (both formats) really excel in the audio mix. Small, subtle details are more easy to discern in the HD version and that is certainly the case with this movie. Center channel dialog is crisp and clean. If you have a really good monitor and home theatre system, do yourself a favor and spend the few extra dollars for the Blu-Ray version.Oh yes, I suppose you'll also need to buy a Blu-Ray player or PlayStation 3.Disney really understands the value of turning out a superior product.4) Good movie [Rating: 4 out of 5]
Purchased it for a friends children. They liked it but I thought it was just above average.5) Great Movie for Kids and Adults alike [Rating: 5 out of 5]
I have nothing negative to say about this movie. God help someone who wishes to dissect an innocent kids movies. Lighten up and enjoy. Good hearted fun for anyone. If you don't like it, there's just something wrong with you!
