The films of Tim Burton shine through the muck like a jack-o-lantern on a foggy October night. After such successes as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands, it should come as no surprise that Sleepy Hollow is a dazzling film, a delicious reworking of Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Dark and moody, the film is a thrilling ride back to the turn of the 19th century. Johnny Depp stars as Ichabod Crane, a seemingly hapless constable from New York City who is sent to the small town of Sleepy Hollow to solve the mystery of the decapitations that are plaguing the town. Crane is a bumbling sort, with a tremendous faith in science over mysticism, and he comes up against town secrets, bewitching women, and a number of bodies missing heads. Christina Ricci, as beautiful as ever, is Katrina Van Tassel, the offbeat love interest who alternately charms and frightens Crane. The film, while occasionally gory (as one should expect from a movie about a headless horseman), is not terribly frightening, although it is suspenseful. Both Depp and Ricci are convincing, and the art direction and production values give the village its harsh feel. Toward the end, once the secrets are revealed, the film does slow down; however, this stylistic horror film provides many tricks and even more treats. --Jenny Brown

1) sleepy hollow [Rating: 3 out of 5]
i was a little disappointed in the sound and picture for this blu-ray. i thought the picture and the sound could have been better.2) Johnny Depp is magical [Rating: 4 out of 5]
Sleepy Hollow is a pretty cool movie. Tim Burton created a spooky and dreary little world and picked Johnny Depp to play lead. You really can't go wrong. The Headless Horseman myth has always fascinated me so I was delighted to watch Burton's take on the legend. Its great because this movie has just the right amount of elements. Its mysterious, its spooky and thilling, its subtle and romantic too and its even a comedy. Of course, this isn't to be taken seriously, and its really not a scary film whatsoever, but it is a fun film. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. Its a really good 'popcorn flick'.3) An American Classic [Rating: 5 out of 5]
HD-DVD Sleepy Hollow Tim Burton is just about as good as they get in the movie business when it comes to creating an atmospheric world to inhabit specific characters. "Sleepy Hollow" is the perfect kind of movie for his directional Midas touch; it resembles the best of Burton in every way. In the film, an adaptation based on a story by Washington Irving called The Legend of Sleepy Hollow; he captures the slumbering, creepy village of Sleepy Hollow with vivid details and imaginative description. The way everything is presented, the trees look like something out of a fairy tale and the scenery represents deception in a mysterious wonderland, is what makes this production one of the year's most captivating and magical film experiences. The HD-DVD features are limit, but price of $14.99 for HD DVD quality is valuable and a must have to your HD DVD collection.4) Johnny Depp & Tim Burton Need I say more? [Rating: 5 out of 5]
A wonderful version of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow tale told from the imagination of Tim Burton and the brilliant acting of Johnny Depp. Funny yet disturbing this movie will keep you interested from start to finish. The team work of Burton and Depp just keeps on delivering delightfully wicked movies for us to enjoy.5) Sleepy hollow [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci do a great job of this legendary tale as well as Tim Burton's all time grim view excellently put as always, of Icabod Crane and the great Holloween American Tale of the Headless Horse man and how he deducts things from an official investigator's point of view even when things he has to accept from Hell enter the picture in an original yet classical point of view.
