Barely out of high school when signed as the first act for Powered By Ramen's new Decaydance imprint, guitarist Ryan Ross and drummer Spencer Smith of Panic! at the Disco had previously cut their musical teeth in a local Las Vegas Blink 182 cover band. It's that familiar, contempo-punk-pop sensibility, bolstered by the amped-up emo-core ambitions of singer Brendan Urie (typified by the snarky gem "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage") that dominates the opening tracks of the album. It's a shrewd hook, one the band steadily expands -- sonically and lyrically -- thereafter. The nervous energy of "London Beckoned Songs About Money Written By Machines" is set off by sonic embroidery that's sounds as intriguing as the vocoder shtick of "Nails For Breakfast..." does dated. Yet "Camisado" quickly shakes up Supertramp's prog-pomp with a double-shot of modern punk-pop smarts, an alchemy the band and producer Mint Squire performs with similarly inventive, genre-blurring ambition (complete with a quasi-Grand Guignol "Intermission" nearly worthy of Queen) on "Lying is the Most Fun..." and such standouts as "But Its Better If You Do" and the arch delight "Build God, Then We'll Talk." Too many young bands are content slaves to fashion; this one has forged a promising debut by shrewdly taking fashion hostage, then standing it firmly on its head. -- Jerry McCulley

2) Album Description
This Las Vegas band strives to create a unique sound by blending melody-driven rock with dance. This is a rock record you can dance to; that's fun and sincere at the same time. Produced by Matt Squire (Northstar, The Explosion, The Receiving End Of Sirens). Panic! At The Disco is the first band signed to Pete Wentz's (Fall Out Boy) Decaydance Records, a Fueled By Ramen imprint label. "...Imagine The Faint meets The Postal Service with all of the pop sensibilities of a Blink 182" - Peter Wentz. Touring with Fall Out Boy, The Starting Line, Motion City Soundtrack, and Boys Night Out this fall.

1) Panic! At the disco (By THE SMITHS!!!)   [Rating: 4 out of 5]
When I got this album I was still finding out what kind of music I liked. And I've got to say that this genre isn't exactly my favourite (being more into experimental music) I will still rate this album fairly regardless of the commercialism. 1. Introduction 5/10. Some random static and a voice that links to the next song... 2. Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage 8/10. A catchy song with a good chorus and is quite interesting at the end. 3. London Beckoned Songs About Money Written by Machines 8/10. PATD singing about their fame and that the weather has something to do with critics, very intersting lyrics. 4. Nails for Breakfast, Tacks for Snacks 7/10. Not a very interesting track and the chorus isn't particulary catchy but an OK song nonetheless. 5. Camisado 8/10. A strong song with the chorus 'Can't take the kid from the fight take the fight from the kid.' Very good. 6. Time to Dance 9/10. A nice synthy beginning with Brendon singing with a nice hint of emotion. Shotgun wedding. 7. Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off 9/10. Like the other song full of emotion but slighlty less complex and has a better chorus. 8. Intermission 6/10. Some random piano... but it's an intermission so I can't say much about it can I? 9. But It's Better If You Do 9/10. The single about the burlesque. It's very simple so all you need to know is that it's burlesque themed. 10. I Write Sins Not Tragedies 10/10. It doesn't get ten just because it's the song that everyone's heard but because it was the first one I heard three (yes THREE!!!) years ago. Has interesting lyrics about a wedding gone wrong and is very catchy. 11. I Constantly Thank God for Esteban 8/10. A basic song with a catchy chorus...what more can I say? 12. There's a Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't... 9/10. Has an interesting them to it and sounds very jazzy. Something about Brendon being a Cancer...well I'm a Libra.(sorry that was cheesy) 13. Build God, Then We'll Talk 10/10. Starts off nice and weird about intimacy and then has some loud chellos near the end. If you're into this music then be my guest and buy but don't attack me for not being interested in this music; not everyone likes the same thing.

2) Music that makes my mouth drop (in the bad way)   [Rating: 1 out of 5]
I am really in favor of experimental vocals, new instruments, and timing change-ups... but there are those who accomplish such variations gracefully and innovatively, and then there's Panic!. I have never heard someone with such a whiny voice cram so many non-rhythmic syllables into one "sentence". It's really a strain on my aural senses. Maybe the beats are catchy... and maybe there is some decent instrumentation - but holy jesus does that voice make me want kick my radio in while driving. This stuff is really meant for kids 13 and below, so I don't expect too much. But when you have two friends in their mid-20's giving this album some credit, I had to check it out. The Cringe-factor is hovering somewhere about 9.5 out of 10 (with Fergie holding it down at a flat 10)

3) A Fever You...   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
won't want to get rid of. First off to be honest...it doesnt matter to me what type of music Panic! is labelled as. It matters if you enjoy the music and have fun while listening. I happen to enjoy them plain and simple, none of the they are trying to be "punk" or whatever that's just lame. If you dont feel their music that's cool but posting negative reviews when you havent even listened to them is bullcrap or the they are just a Fall Out Boy clone...whatever. I don't see them out there doing your thing in front of people (many critics)...please stop hating. Now about the review of this cd. I find myself enjoying the cd for many reasons. The songs are catchy and enjoyable to listen to and the overall feel of the cd is varied from a party type vibe on some tracks to a serious more subdued vibe on other tracks. Everything in between there isn't even a track on the cd that i didnt find myself humming or tapping my feet too all the while just generally having a good time enjoying all that's happening. Some songs of note on "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out" include:"I Write Sins Not Tragedies""But It's Better If You Do""Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have, Without Taking Off Her Clothes (* one of my favs)"Time To Dance""The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage""There's A Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey..""Nails For Breakfast, Tacks For Snacks"I also think it's pretty cool how they title the different songs each having some different meaning. All the while having a sense of humor and rhyme to them as well. Easily one of the better cds that i picked up and is only the beginning for a band that knows how to go out there and have fun while making music. That's what i enjoy most about PATD looking forward to the next CD by them.

4) Panic! at the Disco Fever!   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Wow! What a fun album. I've never heard anything like it. The songs are filled with wild lyrics that tell stories in a really interesting way. The lead singer has a great voice and I love how it overlaps itself in some of the songs. The music flies by with breakneck speed. This album could never become boring. Everytime I hear it, I can't help but get up and dance. Panic! at the Disco is one of the most clever and original bands I've ever heard. I can't wait for their next album.

5) These guys are talented and honest   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
I love this CD. I remember not liking them because of some sort of misconception I had about them. I think I am not alone in completely missing out because of a widespread false perception of them and their music. They are really wonderful musicians and performers and songwriters and this CD is so unique. It draws on a lot of varied musical influences and manages to sound new and interesting. Even within the CD there is a startling variety of sound. Dance music, a piano piece, cabaret-rock. I can't wait for their next CD and I hope they're making music together for a long time.
