Editorial Reviews (supplied by Amazon.com):

1) Amazon.com
"New Monica!" shouts Missy Elliott on the single "So Gone," one of five cuts she co-wrote and produced for After the Storm, the singer's first domestic album since 1998. (An earlier, much different version of the record is available as the import All Eyez on Me.) Drama is the key word here, from the disc's title on down. Miss E, of course, brings much spark and grit, but even some of the non-Elliott cuts are virtual arias of romance and self-fulfillment, with Monica Arnold pledging her devotion on one track, demanding her key back on another. The album's success puts her career and artistry back on track, while encouraging hope for more collaboration along the lines of the exciting Missy stuff here. --Rickey Wright

Average Customer Rating: 4.0 out of 5

1) Superior   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
This is a superior CD. Monica is under-rated. This is a must have CD.

2) Monica Comes Back Strong!   [Rating: 4 out of 5]
Monica sets it off with an album filled with party vibes, thumpin' bass-lines, rap featured artists, slow close-to-the heart songs, and excellent musical productions! While the road to life has not been easy for Monica that has not changed her disposition to sing or perform. Instead she channels her energies to get her feeling, and life experiences out to others and at the same fulfilling her God given talent to do what she loves and enjoys! She is a beautiful person with a lot to give! Each song is great with the up-tempo, mid-tempo, and slow jams. Tracks like "Get It Off" display much club ambiance, heavy bass, rap, and dance effects. Other songs to kick back and feel some relation [provided you've been there] would be "So Gone" making it clear that bad boys can be quite annoying sometimes. If your latest Victoria's Secret outfit is not being noticed then this is the song to play and vent out rather than take scissors and rip them. "U Should've Known Better" is another excellent track proving that love is not about feeling insecure but believing in your lover! Some lyrics: "It don't matter if your rich or poor". One of my favorite tracks is "Knock Knock" displaying the strengths of a woman in full force! it's a dangerous game to play with a strong woman! Her vocal pitches, musical accompaniment, raps, and styles are catchy, infectious, and slamming! "Ain't Gonna Cry No More" is another powerful song that shows the strength to let go and love oneself. Beautiful ballads include: "Breaks My Heart" showcasing Monica's vocals comparable in style to Brandy. There's soft, styles definitely appealing. "Hurts The Most" with similar melodies bringing her singing to flow more smoothly, peaceful, and even spiritual. The part where she sings, "Baby what hurts the most is letting go...I thought for sure you'd always wait for me... I hate that there someone new coming in... I know I'm the one to blame for losing you/I really really wish that I could be happy for you." Every song most definitely is fabulous making this a top selection for fans, new listeners, and R&B lovers!

3) It's really good   [Rating: 4 out of 5]
I like this Monica album sooo much but the version I got has 13 songs total (it doesn't have U Deserve in it). All i can say is daaammmn! Monica did her thang! I would have to say my favorite song is a duet with Tyrese called Go To Bed Mad. This should've been a single. I also like Don't Gotta Go Home, I Wrote This Song, Breaks My Heart, Knock Knock, U Should've Known Betta, So Gone, & Get It Off.....basically I really like this album and at first I wasn't sure I was gonna like it but it was worth it. Don't sleep on this album!

4) MY SECOND FAVORITE ALBUM BY MONICA   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
I LOVE THIS ALBUM MONICA DID HER THANG ON THIS ALBUMEVERY SONG ON HERE IS REALLY GOOD "EXCEPT THAT'S MY MAN"OTHER THAN THAT THE ALBUM IS REALLY REALLY GOODAND HER NEW ALBUM "THE MAKINGS OF ME" IS COMING OUT ON TUESDAYAND I CAN'T WAIT I ALREADY HEARD IT AND IT IS "HOT", BUT DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHY THEY CHANGED IT FROM 14 SONGS TO NOW ONLY 10?I THINK MONICA IS PULLING A BEYONCE ON US.BUT IN MY OPINION THE "MAKINGS OF ME" SOUNDS LIKE ALBUM OF THE YEAR.

5) After the Storm   [Rating: 4 out of 5]
I highly anticipated getting this disc and couldn't wait to hear how Monica could or would top her previous album. Her huge hit single, SO GONE was the perfect choice for a lead-off single - it's a hypnotically addictive track that features a strong vocal performance from Monica. I enjoyed this entire album, although not as much as 'THE BOY IS MINE', but it's certainly a strong, well produced album that any Monica fan should enjoy. My standout tracks are:U SHOULD'VE KNOWN BETTER - again, excellent choice as a 2nd single, this was a huge r&b hit that again showcases Monica's beautiful voiceKNOCK KNOCK - love the sample usedBREAKS MY HEART - really pretty mid-tempo balladHURTS THE MOST - excellent overall productionGO TO BED MAD - I'm not a Tyrese fan but this is a really nice duet between the two singersAs for the bonus disc:TOO HOOD - I didn't like the lyrics but the music got my head bopping to the beatDOWN 4 WHATEVER - her vocals are really airy and pretty soundingSEARCHIN - inspirational trackI would highly recommend this disc to any Monica fan and although I didn't like it as much as I loved her previous album, this is still one of the better 2003 r&b album releases.
