She may be bald, and her parenting skills may be more backwoods than the celebrity-obsessed would prefer, but when it comes to her profession (singing pop songs, for those who have forgotten) you've got to give Brit a break. Not because her previous records have been flawless--for all its first-listen appeal, Oops! I Did It Again will drive even the most tolerant pop fiend bats after two repeats, and it's hard for long-term fans to overlook the unfortunate "I Love Rock N Roll" off 2001's Britney--but because, despite all the personal tumult, she's feeling the music like never before. Blackout is not a brilliant record for its vocals, though they're good in the cooing, sex-kittenish way we've come to expect (check first single "Gimme More," a monstrously catchy dance-pop number, for the requisite moans and sighs). But it is brilliant. And though the Neptunes, Bloodshy & Avant, and Nate "Danja" Hills do their trippy, thumpy, raved-up thing successfully enough to make you think so, the brilliance isn't in the production only. The crackling "Radar" gets under your skin not just because of its club-ready beat, a familiar element on this disc, but also from Britney's deliberate vocal haze; here she is interpreting how she ought to sound against the heat of this track, and pretty skillfully--she goes for pure vibe, and she gets it. And while the words to the seemingly autobiographical "Piece of Me" are enough to pull you in themselves--here we get to hear Britney refer to herself as "Miss Bad Media Karma"--they get a little something extra from our girl's newly awakened sense of what makes a song flow; she has the good sense to squeal. Is she a credible role model? Certainly not. Is her music worth hitting, as the old song goes, one more time? Absolutely. --Tammy La Gorce

1) This is Britney Spears best album ever [Rating: 5 out of 5]
I admit it, I'm a 34 year old and yes, I listen to pop music. I have all of Britney's albums and this is by far the best - proving that yes, Britney can sing and excellent producers are key to a good album.Along with the rest of the world, I was pleasantly surprised when she revealed her debut track, "Gimme More," which will remain in rotation in the club scene for a long time to come. "Piece of Me" is fascinating, catchy and all of us on Team Britney appreciate the @#$% off to the paps. While most of the songs are bubble gum and fruity, they're all solid and stand on their own. "Oh, oh Baby" is sexy cool and shows off Britney's talent as a singer (something that she's not even known for these days). "Hot as Ice" is an enjoyable play on words and Britney pulls it off with heaps full of sass. "Toy Soldier" is another that should be given kudos. It's an all around great album to work out to, dance to, and clean the house to. Upbeat, flirty, and kind of bratty. Besides the "It's Britney Bitch" in the beginning, it's pretty kid friendly - and Brit's matured (as life's been rough) since her freshman album which seems like a hundred years ago now. I could do without the K-Fed rip, "Why Should I be Sad" but I can't complain when all but one song on the album are what I call repeaters (can listen to more than once in a car trip).Like Madonna, Britney has proven that she may be down - but she's far from out. This album is awesome.2) GREAT CD! [Rating: 5 out of 5]
I love all the songs on this cd. Def. a girl power type of cd. I love dancing to this! Highly recommended!3) Pleasantly surprised [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Okay, so I have never been a big Britney fan. I have liked a few of her songs, but I have never bought an album before. But when Gimme More came out I liked it. I read some reviews of this album and thought, I am going to buy it. And I REALLY like it. It is infectious and very good. I particulary like songs 2, 3 and 10. #2 is a glimpse into the feelings about her life.4) Britney Spears [Rating: 5 out of 5]
I love this Album......It just gets better and better with Britney! You will not be disappointed. I love the song "Why should I be Sad" it is somewhat of a diss to Kevin. I also love the songs-Radar, gimme more, piece of me, & freakshow. Britney is so awesome....5) Britney's Best Ever [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Fantastic album! Her best by far. It's sexy and mysterious and grown up and honest. Even though I love her other albums, "Blackout" makes them seem so babyish and dated. Her music has evolved. I hope Britney gets rid of her personal troubles soon because I think she has a lot more to offer the music scene.
