"Brazilian Girls" is a name designed to steer you to the "wrong" sites in a Web search, and the not-so-thinly-veiled innuendo (one chorus is "Pussy pussy pussy marijuana") doesn't help either. But the music the Brazilian Girls make is more seductive than salacious. And except for one member, they aren't girls. The one who is, Italian-born Sabina Sciubba, is a former jazz singer who has the hipper-than-thou chanteuse thing going: a cigarette dangling from her lips, a beret cocked sideways on her head, black-stockinged legs crossed suggestively... at least she sure sounds that way. Sciubba sits astride basslines that insinuate themselves like a sideways glance in a smoky bar, as a sensual mix of live drumming and gritty trip-hop lounge grooves skew to the side of late-night alcohol-clouded vision. The English, French, Spanish, and German-language lyrics and Weill/Brecht-meets-Baja Marimba Band horns only add to the delirious dislocation. With a sophisticated electronic palette, Brazilian Girls exude that hip retro-future sound that propelled Deee-Lite back in 1990. Hopefully they won't also be one-hit wonders. --John Diliberto

1) Love them, love the album!   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Love them, love them, love them. Get this!Soooo much better than the junk out there posing as music. Pop stars suck.BG are awesome!

2) Very enjoyable   [Rating: 4 out of 5]
Calm, nice slow mood. Great to use to get some girls in 'the mood'. I've tried it, recommended.

3) Fun Dinner Party Starter   [Rating: 4 out of 5]
Great mix and mingle CD. All guest comments were "Oh this is different, but I like it"!

4) Sexy music that pulls you in   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Just had to say something about this CD, cos I'm totally blown away by the sound. Picked it up as a late Christmas gift to myself and couldn't be happier. Sciubba's voice is smooth, sexy and totally amazes me each time I listen to the album. 'DON'T STOP' is a winner and immediately caught my attention, cos everything about this song is incredible. The song remains on "repeat" in my discman when I travel on the subway. Sabina Sciubba sounds a lot like Nena (99 Luft Balloons) with her smokey pipes. I'd definitely play the album for customers at my bistro (if I had one). This is the stuff you want to listen to while having drinks with friends on any given spring or summer afternoon/evening.The album is ballsy, fresh and bold. The band truly impress me more each time I listen to their music. Because of this, I bought everything in their discography. This album stands out in my music collection because I listen to it in "parts" rather than over-play it as a whole. There's a Euro feel to the CD, compared to "Talk to La Bomb". This album is a little lighter and more techno-oriented at times, as the follow-up "TTLB" is jazzier work. The album will really pump you into a music buzz if you listen to it on your Ipod or any portable apparatus using headphones.'SHIPS IN THE NIGHT' is dreamy and laid-back, a perfect ending to a busy album, though not what I expected as a concluding track. As the songs are sung in four languages, it's a pleasure to my ears. Will definitely transfer the album to my minidisc player for fun, carefree summer listening. I guess I just described Brazilian Girls right there. They are fun and carefree.Filled with interesting sounds, samples and solid bass and drum beat throughout, the CD will charm you. It's a sexy album and you'll want to get up and dance, no doubt. I enjoy 'LAZY LOVER' because of the smoothness of Sciubba's vocals mixed with the smooth arrangements. This particular song can be heard during a TV commercial where there's a couple rolling downhill toward a beach. Cute song, funny commercial. "PUSSY' and 'SIRENES DE LA FETE' are 2 very fun songs, which had me laughing when playing them for the first time. Clearly not what I expected, I'm a happy camper and want to hear more stuff like this from BG. Hmmmmmm...was trying to think of something the album lacks. Well, maybe they could've included a vid clip of "Don't Stop" or something, since the video to this particular song is fab!Features:- 8 page (2-sided) booklet includes candid "cut & paste" photos and credits- The disc is white with a red inner border, white background and greyscale cut & paste photos of band members- Inner tray card is blue on spline with white background featuring green paint splotches & footprint- Back of traycard features face-shots of band members & other info- Jewel-case packagingTracklisting:01- Homme 5'2002- Don't Stop 3'5003- Lazy Lover 3'5904- Sirènes De La Fete 4'4305- Corner Store 4'1006- Long 4'3807- Pussy 4'0608- Die Gedanken Sind Frei (Thoughts are free) 4'2809- All We Have 3'4610- Dance Till The Morning Sun 4'3811- Me Gustas Cuando Callas 5'3812- Ships In The Night 3'31Produced By: Brazilian GirlsCo-Produced and Engineered By: Hector CastilloMixed By: Mark PlatiFile Under: Pop / ElectronicaIn conclusion...buy the CD and impress yourself & your friends. They are very different, however I find myself enjoying this CD very much, especially on those days when I am just cruising in the convertible!!
