Perhaps R. Kelly's brushes with the law have caused him to turn down his love light, since his seventh album Chocolate Factory takes scrupulous pains to show an idealized high-minded face of love, eschewing his usual steamy cocktail of raunchy lust and replacing it with a sweet, winsome romanticism. "I'll Never Leave," is a wistful valentine, while "The Heart of a Woman," is embarrassingly empathetic to the plight of the feminine kind and is hardly the kind of fare that one expects from Marvin Gaye's heir apparent. Despite his real life racy escapades, Kelly is at his best musically when he's an unrepentant bad boy but he doesn't even show any grit until "Been Around the World," his confessional duet with a rasping Ja Rule, the fretful bluesy "You Made Me Love You," and "Ignition," a paean to parking. Despite "Ignition"'s first line, "Girl, please let me stick my key in your ignition, babe" it's rather tame by the standards Kelly has set on his earlier discs. "Chocolate Factory" also includes 6 bonus tracks from Loveland the album that was slated for a 2002 release, but was ostensibly shelved after it was rampantly bootlegged on the Internet. Despite the disc's soft focus, Kelly is at the height of his vocal powers, and once he weans himself from the gooey sentimentality and returns to his persona of a smooth seductive operator he'll once again be an artist to be reckoned with. --Jaan Uhelszki2) Album Description

1) Sweet like chocolate [Rating: 4 out of 5]
R. Kelly's 2003 album "Chocolate Factory" is truly one of his finest works, a consistent and well-produced album of heartfelt and well-written love songs. Unlike his last few albums, "Chocolate Factory" lacks the sexually explicit undertones throughout most of the album, and the main theme of this album is love, pure and simple. The songwriting is excellent, ranging from midtempo ballads to upbeat club tracks, with clever lines and hooks. Kelly lets his immense singing talent take centerstage here, be it his incredible range, singing fast, or collaborating. "Chocolate Factory" is a very complete and fulfilling album, the songs are pure, fun, and as enjoyable as any of his work. The tracklist runs a little too long, but I highly recommend "Chocolate Factory," one of the best albums from one of R&B's finest talents. The album begins with the title track, a clever and upbeat love song that starts the disc on a lovely note. The original version of "Step in the Name of Love" is no where near as well known as the infamous remix, it's a less memorable song and doesn't stand out on this album. The deep "Heart of a Woman" is nice, and the sunny "I'll Never Leave" is beautifully written, allowing R. Kelly to shine on the track. Ja Rule guests on "Been Around the World," a very good ode to his fans and friends throughout his career. "You Made Me Love You" isn't one of the better songs here, but "Forever" is a heartfelt song to a woman. I really like "Dream Girl," which precedes the classic "Ignition" and "Ignition (Remix)." These songs are undeniable R&B classics. The first is a gorgeous song about late-night love, while the ultra-catchy remix is one of R. Kelly's greatest songs, a funky and upbeat number with great production and unforgettable verses. "Forever More" is another simple and appealing love song, and "You Knock Me Out" is a unique track for this album, a Latin-influenced blues number. "Step in the Name of Love (Remix)" was a landmark recording for R. Kelly, taking his winding career down yet another path, and bringing the culture of Chicago's step music to the masses. The live instrumentation on this song is wonderful, an understated soulful funk, and R. Kelly's performance is possibly the most likable of his discography. After the very nice "Imagine That" comes a definite highlight, the nine-minute "Showdown," a collaboration with Ronald "Mr. Biggs" Isley. With spoken interludes, a phone call, and a story involving deception, love, and conflict, the two tell a very entertaining tale with their vocals. The popular club track, the single "Snake," is an excellent late-album track, and the album closes with one of my favorites, the sweet "Apologies of a Thug." Over some awesome production with a perfect vocal sample, the singer's almost spoken verses make this song excellent. If possible, the Limited Edition is a valuable purchase, because the second disc contains some extra material. "Heaven I Need a Hug" and "The World's Greatest" are two of my favorite R. Kelly songs, they are both uplifting and truly wonderful, making a great addition to the already excellent tracklist.R. Kelly is at his best on songs like these: simple, well-written, and purely clean loves songs. These will appeal to any listener of any age, his talent is undeniable and the material is wonderful. Definitely pick up "Chocolate Factory."2) R. KELLY AT THE TOP OF HIS GAME..... [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Despite recent and persistent legal troubles, R. Kelly proves once again that he is still at the top of his game. Longtime fans will compare this album to 12 Play---full of tracks with great beats, and fabulous lyrical content. The heat is there also--but there are signs of R becoming more muscially mature and willing to test the limits of his fans. "Imagine That" experiments with electric guitars and has a rock-like sound Kelly fans aren't used to hearing from him, but he of course makes it work. R. Kelly travels from one musical extreme to the other--from tracks reminiscent of rock bands to the heady, romantic, sexy tracks that he's best known for.Despite the scandals, R shows that he is still quite capable of turning out a quality product.DYB3) R Kells [Rating: 5 out of 5]

Can't nobody touch this album, nobody. From the first cut, the title track Chocolate Factory, just draws you in. Then you have to Step In The Name of Love. When you hear R. tell you to shut up that he'll never leave, oh it's on then. Track, after track, after track, is just intoxicating. This man is a Lyrical Genius. I like a lot of other male artists, but I'm sorry when it comes to writing, producing, singing and performing R. Kelly's got it hands down. He is definitely the R. in R & B...ya heard!!!5) Da Bomb Diggity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [Rating: 5 out of 5]
R.Kelly is a musical genius his music is real mellow and soothing. I rate him as the king of R&B. Even when people keep trying to discourage me against buying his stuff what can I say the man has been blessed with a gift. He is an artist. All I can say is brother keep them hits coming.
