Editorial Reviews (supplied by Amazon.com):
1) Album Description
This is the second album from the Los Angeles based octet, Flogging Molly. Taking influence from their Irish roots and the sound of the Californian punk scene, 'Drunken Lullabies'is a mix of brash punk rock guitars, violins, whistles and accordians. The band are often compared to the Pogues and fellow punk band, The Dropkick Murphys.
Customer Reviews (supplied by Amazon.com):
Average Customer Rating: 4.5 out of 5
1) Craic [Rating: 5 out of 5]
The best of the Flogging Molly albums and that is saying something. The first 7 songs especially a ripping good time of craic.2) An excellent CD [Rating: 5 out of 5]
The Clancy Brothers, The Irish Rovers, The Dubliners, The Chieftains and The Coors have all drawn on and contributed to the music of Ireland. Their contributions have produced an electric lively interesting sound. Flogging Molly is building on this heritage and expanding it. They have a sound that is a combination of Irish music and punk rock that is attracting and beguiling. My introduction was a ring tone on my son's phone, they will appeal to any student of Irish music. This is my second Flogging Molly CD and will not be my last. This CD can be a good introduction or an excellent addition to your CD collection. The title song, Drunken Lullabies, is a very strong introduction and sets the tone for a the selection of songs. What's Left of the Flag, If I Ever Leave This World Alive and The Kilburn High Road appeal to me and get played often.3) The Best Damn Pogues Cover Band Ever! [Rating: 5 out of 5]
When the Pogues broke up (Shane left) I grew so depressed, because there was nobody out there that came close to capturing that powerful Irish sound. Then came Flogging Molly and happiness returned. This band rocks! They are a little more on the rock side than the folk side, is comparison to the Pogues. Please take no offense to the title review for this CD, just to be compared to the Pogues means greatness in my book.4) My Favorite CD [Rating: 5 out of 5]
This is Flogging Molly at their absolute best. Every track is great. What else is there to say. Great music by a great band. I never get tired of this recording.5) Dave King from Fastway on vocals!!!! [Rating: 4 out of 5]
I did a search on Fastway to see what Dave King (ex vocalist from the blues metal band Fastway...from the '80's) was up to these days and ran across a comment that he was singing for a band called Flogging Molly. I heard some sample clips and honestly I don't think , from what I heard anway, that he sounds anything like he did on the Fastway albums. That's not a good or bad thing...just my observation. I'll listen to a few more, but I'd like to hear him wail on a song or two to compare his voice to that from the '80's. Don't get me wrong, this stuff will keep your feet movin'. I enjoyed what I have heard. I just need to listen to some more tracks. I mainly wrote this review to inform any Fastway fans out there who may be wondering whatever became of good ole Dave. I'm glad he has found solice in something he obviously enjoys doing. Keep on keepin' on!
