In the liner notes to their major label debut, Oklahoma City's Hinder endorse tequila, Belvedere, Crown Royal, Jägermeister, and Mr. Watson 540. In "Get Stoned," photogenic Austin Winkler (who sounds tougher than he looks) rasps, "Let's go home and get stoned." Later, he adds, "The break-up is worth the make-up sex you're givin' me." In "Bliss (I Don't Wanna Know)," the lead singer laments, "The vodka's running on empty." This is a problem because, "I can't stay sober/if it's over." But things pick up in "Room 21" where he meets a "b*tch" with "red lipstick and pale pink boots," who shows him a good time (yes, he said boots). And he doesn't even know her name! The days of big hair-and-spandex metal may be long gone, but in songwriting terms, Hinder's music is a throwback to the politically incorrect Sunset Strip days of Guns N' Roses, LA Guns, and Faster Pussycat. For some hard-rock aficionados, they will surely come as a breath of fresh air. For those with more refined tastes--a blast of stale cigarette smoke. That said, "Homecoming Queen" is surprisingly tender ("She never walked on water/'cause no one really saw her"), proving that way down deep inside, the frisky fivesome does have a teeny, tiny, little beating heart. Overall though, if the platinum long-player, which was cowritten with producer Brian Howes, has a message, it's this: Girl, you broke my heart and I hate you for it. 1) Hinder is a disgrace to rock music   [Rating: 1 out of 5]
This band is so freaking terrible. I can't decide who is worse Nickelback or these guys. Now if you love Nickelback, Creed, Three Doors Down, Matchbox Twenty, Puddle of Mudd, (insert monotonous modern rock band here), etc. you will LOVE this. However if you like interesting rock and roll that doesn't all sound like the same slop, well then you will definitely want to look elsewhere. All the songs on here suck, "Lips Of An Angel" and "Better than Me" are two of the worst songs I've ever heard. Now if you like formulatic souless boring rock, that's cool I actually USED to listen to stuff like this myself but then I discovered what real rock sounds like and well I will never go back to this.

2) Nickelbacks little brothers? 3.5 stars.   [Rating: 3 out of 5]
Coming across as a younger more party orientated version of Nickelback to my mind Hinder on this debut lay the foundation for a good party within the confines of the hard rock universe. With the vocals of Austin Winkler intertwined with the bands rock `n' roll heartbeat the band cruises down the highway in love with a carefree form of the genre whose light hearted and lightweight delivery truly evokes that of the late 80's pop metal bands. And that's meant as a compliment.The band open their account with Get Stoned where the scene is set for the rest of the album in the form of lots of almost yelled vocals and slightly understated but upfront riffing. The band sound like they'd perform as good time evoking professionals on a large stage and absolutely rip on a small stage. Further cuts such as How Long reinforce the image of a bunch of young lads who got to life the dream and I can't hate them for that. The music is mostly reminiscent to me of a somewhat lighter Nickelback and they also don't have quite the same ability to pen a tune and lyrics of such universal qualities of Chad Kroegers mob. The album has both quicker numbers and slowburn tunes such as Shoulda. And of course the album was blessed with having a hit in the form of fairly traditional power ballad Lips Of An Angel.Some may find this album a bit too studied, from the inclusion of the f word and the lingerie clad model on the cover and the persona put forward in interviews. Whether that's the case, well I'm willing to withold my judgement on the strength of this album alone.The production values are fine. Brian Howes did the honours and it was mixed by Randy Staub if possible you should try to get the extended version of this album as it contains a few bonus tracks. These are an acoustic version of flagship number Lips Of An Angel and a piano version of Room 21. They do show a slightly different side to the band though given the traditional structure of Lips it's not such a leap to hear an acoustic version.A worthy debut from a fairly middle of the road musically bunch of guys. Good for highways and byways but not overly challenging and the fact that much of their fan base seems made up of `tweenagers' is probably appropriate. Whether they learn to speak to a larger audience like Nickelback has done only the future can tell.

If you pop the collar on your polo or belong to a frat, then this is the record for you; otherwise, stay the hell away. I think Allmusic put it best:"Extreme Behavior can't even make it as rote hard rock -- it's too insulting to women and your intelligence. That's why it's dude rock instead. Hinder are so egregiously dull they appeal not to fans of music, but fans of high fives."

This is a good CD, there are some songs that I don't particularly care for, but all in all it is a good addition to a CD collection.

i loved the album, but i haven't listen to it once since i saw them live. i'm not sure what did it to me, but i lost interest.
