Editorial Reviews (supplied by Amazon.com):

1) Amazon.com
On his third release, I Am, Nas bolsters his reputation as one of hip-hop's leading wordsmiths. His voice has grown so strong that none of the A-list guests (they include Puff Daddy, Aaliyah, Scarface, and DMX) can upstage the 25-year-old rapper. Nas has acted in a movie (Belly), but his real ambition is to write them; until that happens he'll be known for highly cinematic tales of the street. Nas is a lot like a prison-yard bard: he tells crime stories full of blood and guts, but he balances them with strong messages to stop the cycle of violence. His ghetto tales, such as "Small World" and "Favor for a Favor," stress desperation as the cause of crime rather than glorify the nihilistic criminality. Except for one track, "Dr. Knockboot," which casts him as a columnist to the hip-hop lovelorn and playa wannabes, Nas is unremittingly sober on I Am. His righteousness would seem nearly sanctimonious if not underpinned by superb production from the Trackmasters and DJ Premier. The production helps make this a consistent recording throughout, rather than a smattering of hits and misses. --Martin Johnson

1) Underrated...That's an Understatement   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
After Nas's Two Disc I Am... was leaked onto the internet people started disregarding all the material on the two releases. I Am is a lot better than Nastradamus. The guest appearances don't distract from this well crafted CD.A second NY State of Mind opens this CD. It's as good as the first. The controversial video Hate Me Now follows and is an enjoyable track. The nest four tracks are amazing. From then on the DMX featured track stands out, and Nas Is Like and its succeeding songs are definite masterpieces.Highly recommended.

2) it was good   [Rating: 4 out of 5]

4) His 3rd Best Album   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
I AM is an out standing album.Nas probably had some commercial songs on here but he stays on point. The "INTRO" was very nice.I really liked the tribute from his last albums."N.Y.State of mind 2" is better than the first one to me."Hate Me Know" is a powerful song and it was the first single."Small World" was a deep story."Favor For A Favor" is the my favorite song with a guest apperance."We Will Survive" is a deep track dedications to B.I.G. and 2Pac."ghetto Prisoners" has a nice beat but sort of skippable."You Won't See Me Tonight" is commericial and skippable."I Want To Talk To You" is political and has some great lyrics."Dr.Knock Boot" is creative and has some funny storys and rules about sex."Life Is What You Make It" is very hoy with a grimey beat."Big Things" is O.K. nas delivers some nice lyrics about doing big things instead doing nonthin on street corners."Nas Is Like" is my favorite track hands down. The beat is so nice and nas's rhymes are tough(one of my favorite nas song of all time)."KISSING" is has a nice vibe about being with a women."Money is My B***h" is hot with an island beat."Undying Love" is a deep track and a nice song to close the album. This was better than nastradamus and illmatic.Cop this one

5) This is one deep brother......................   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Nas dropped this classic back in 98. Although it's forever remembered for Hate Me Now, I Am contains some of Nas most potent work.
