First single and leadoff track "I Want to Live" sets the tone for American Idol castoff Josh Gracin's self-titled debut fairly and honestly, as befits the shucks-y'all persona of this country-steeped Marine. Shuffle through, and the same rich, even-keeled yearning, pleading, and--when he's feeling plucky--persuading crop up song to song. It's soothing. It's get-what-you-paid-for satisfying. And it sails along like a sunny afternoon spent zipping along a southern highway. But it's also a little too simple, leaving the sense that Gracin, or somebody at his label, isn't quite ready to scuff up his cowboy boots by kicking it full twang ahead on a single track. Still, give him a pass this time for playing it safe: next go-round, with any luck, he will have scrapped his Garth Brooks influences (they come through loud and clear here on several tracks) and found a boot-stomper better suited to letting his honeyed--and humble--pipes dip, swerve, and soar. --Tammy La Gorce

1) Wow, incredible first effort. I can't wait for more! [Rating: 5 out of 5]
I've had this CD now for over a year and it's STILL in the no. 1 position of my CD changer in the car. I never get tired of it. Josh Gracin may be the most overlooked new artist in recent years. Yes, I have Josh Turners CDs in the no. 2 and 3 positions in the CD changer and they are staying there, but this Josh really holds his own. When I saw Josh Gracin come out the 1st or 2nd week of AmIdol he really caught my attention. But when he was voted off, I lost track. Then one day I heard the radio say something about "Josh Gracin's new CD" and I bought it. It's been in the CD player ever since. I didn't expect much, but I got a classic country performance. Even if you don't like country music, I think most of the songs will easily cross over to popular music. As the songs say, you've got "Nothin' To Lose" so "Turn It Up!" :)2) Simply Awful Album [Rating: 1 out of 5]
I seldom write reviews, but when I could do better myself, (and I am a horrid singer), then I feel compelled to express an opinion. The songs on this album represent the worst kind of insincere tripe, full of false emotions and faked attempts at honesty. Gracin is clearly in this just for the money and is so full of himself as to believe those who support him, who are also riding on his coattails and hoping he becomes a bigger star than he is. His talent, what little there is off it, is undeveloped and unworthy of the time it would take to actually listen to this album. In another 5 to 10 years he might be worth a first album. Sorry Gracin, but your 15 minutes are up!3) Josh Opened Door! [Rating: 4 out of 5]
I think Josh was the first, really talented, country singer on American Idol and he opened the door for Carrie Underwood to be our first country American Idol! Thanks, Josh! Long live country!4) This Guy Is GOOD! [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Love this guy.... his music and voice. I hope to see this guy at the grammys one day! He is going to be a big star, I just know it. :o)5) Josh Gracin CD [Rating: 5 out of 5]
This is a great CD. All of his music so far is wonderful. I believe he will be around in the spotlight for a long time.
