Editorial Reviews (supplied by Amazon.com):
1) Amazon.com's Best of 2001
Everything about Tool's fourth album is an experience, starting with the packaging, which consists of liner credits printed on a translucent plastic sleeve over the CD and a booklet that layers anatomical representations atop one another--the first page pictures musculature and blood vessels; the next, bones; the third, internal organs; and so on. It's worth describing the packaging of Lateralus because it says much about the astonishing music within. Maynard James Keenan and company understand the expectations riding on this much-anticipated release and they've delivered the goods! While it remains in the Tool tradition of trance-inducing progressive metal, Lateralus is tighter, clearer, crisper, and all around a notch above their admirable previous releases. Aenima was marred by muddy production and a certain predictability. Undertow had a cleaner sound but wasn't as confident or adventurous. With Lateralus, Tool have raised an already lofty bar still higher by coming up with a collection that kicks major ass. --Genevieve Williams

1) another genius album from Tool [Rating: 5 out of 5]
I was expecting another Aenima with some growth, but didn't expect to get this. This album clearly shows maturity...musically and lyrically. The songwriting is tighter and has more depth. The lyrics have more depth. The songs have more compelling hooks, IMO. I still have not listened to 10,000 days, but am very excited to hear it. Tool has established themselves as progressive masters with this one.2) very solid cd from tool [Rating: 4 out of 5]
i just recently started listening to tool and im glad i did. they are a great band. this is one one their best cds with great melodic and heavy songs. my favorites are laterlaus the grudge and parabola.3) Lateralus [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Words are inadequate. If you haven't heard this album you haven't heard music. TOOL's best album.4) How to ruin a solid band [Rating: 2 out of 5]
Tool take a lot a care in their long players. This is in many ways a nice product. However they have spoilt a solid and reliable band by trying to be King Crimson with lots of weird bits of noodling. Now in the days since Sabbath lots of kids have played power chords but the truth is no one quite played power chords as good as Adam Jones. I could enjoy an album of 70 minutes of him just playing 2 or 3 power chords that's how good it is. The musical growth here is just a bit too much for me to handle unfortunately. Ticks and Leeches shows some potential but is sadly still a bit too weird. I just want bands to realise that life is hard and fast and then we die, I don't want to have to wade my way through so much 'art' to get to the rock I love so much. Now i know that it's Tool's choice to progress and god bless them they have done that without selling out but where am I going to get my power chord release on a thursday night. I don't want to have to turn to Creed or someone else because those pretenders just don't have an ounce of Tool's talent.5) help!! [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Can someone tell me please, is this vinyl? And the 36.66 (clever with the 6's) Undertow.... is that vinyl as well? I'm new in here and just trying to figure some stuff out. Thanks.
