Editorial Reviews (supplied by Amazon.com):

1) Amazon.com
Literate, recombinant indie-pop doesn't get much better than Scottish act Camera Obscura. And Let's Get Out of This Country, their third album, is easily their best yet. The male-female vocals of their first two albums are gone, as John Henderson's left the band. But as the album was recorded in Sweden with Jari Haapalainen, the dude who helped the Concretes achieve their Spector-ish, candy-coated sheen, the same charms are at work here. "Dory Previn" is a slow country rocker that recalls the pastoral sound of the sorely-missed band Opal, while other songs are more organ-driven and rollicking. Lead singer-songwriter Tracyanne Campbell's lyrics are smart, wonderful, and direct ("You can't see that you're the same as all the stupid people that you hate / I'm not saying I'm free from blame because I need all the friends I can get"). This is orchestral pop that's immaculately produced and fun as hell, even though the protagonists of the songs readily, almost selflessly dive into the sloppiest of romantic situations ("I've got my life of complication here to sort out"). --Mike McGonigal

2) Album Description
The stellar new album from Glasgow's spectacular pop sextet was influenced by a wide variety of heroes: Jimmy Webb, Lloyd Cole, Connie Francis, Skeeter Davis, The Supremes, and David Lynch. Decidedly upbeat and catchy while also beautifully romantic, quiet, and reflective, this record does not disappoint. The LP includes a coupon for a free MP3 download of "Let's Get Out Of This Country".

Average Customer Rating: 4.5 out of 5

1) Can't stop listening to it   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
I heard "Come Back Margaret" on Internet radio and liked it so much I bought this album hoping for more tunes as rich in melody with that sorta retro sound. The entire album far exceeded my expectations. Tracyanne Campbell is is a brilliant singer and songwriter, and this disc is a masterpiece.

2) Very nice music with "HAPPY MODE" on. !!   [Rating: 4 out of 5]
Nice CD. Happy music. Can listen whole day but will get burn out fast as well.treat with care.ThanksJ

3) Very good surprise for Christmas. Thanks Amazon!   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Good present for Christmas. Santa arrived with a real present from another country. We not only received a cd from the band we recently discovered and non stop listened, we also recived an envelop with a present coming far away. We enjoyed it a lot!

4) A LukeWarm Affair   [Rating: 3 out of 5]
I listened to "Let's Get Out of this Country" by Camera Obscura and so far I have found it a LukeWarm Affair. What does that mean? Let's see... a melodic, softly sang with some real fine musical moments but in the end lacking something. Certainly more than 3 Stars but not quite 4 Stars. Still, there is plenty of chances it might grow on the listener so I am reserving a possible update for the future. Nice voice, nice music, happy to have heard them but still lacking in some areas. Never the less I am happy with my purchase and that is step one in my book. Reading the reviews on amazon.com I thought Camera Obscura would be a ground breaking, class act sounding type of group. Close but no dice. To enter the realm of the great you truly must be great, that is the one requirement that Camera Obscura "Let's Get Out Of This Country" doesn't quite meet. 3.5 Stars. PS 1-3-08 Upon more listens to this CD I must, in true Fairness, raise the rating to 4 Stars because is way more than a 3. They did grow up on stature!

5) Very beautiful album   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
I first heard this band on KEXP's live music podcast and I was blown away. I listened to it three times in a row, bought the album, and then listened to the live performance again. The sound is very interesting, it seems like it could have been recorded in the 60s. My brother says that it sounds like church music. The lead singers voice has an irresistible cracking sound. I don't know any better way to put it. It's very very beautiful. And she has a Scottish accent that definitely comes out in the singing, and that makes everything even better. While all of the songs are great, "Lloyd, I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken", "Tears For Affairs", and "The False Contender" are my favorite. They make me smile and make me thankful that I live in a world with such beautiful music.
