A rare case in which a band actually gets better with time, this California hard rock quintet seems to have finally grown into its skin on its fifth album. Casting off the dated slap-bass funk and pointless nu-metal angst of its early years (well, mostly), Light Grenades is not only a worthwhile follow-up to 2003's A Crow Left of the Murder--the expansive disc many fans consider Incubus's best--but shows improvements all around. Singer Brandon Boyd has learned to temper the words he plucks out of the thesaurus with genuine heartbreak, while the rest of the group proves it can do a lot more than offer up nonstop grooves. --Aidin Vaziri

1) Worst Incubus CD yet   [Rating: 2 out of 5]
As a longtime fan of Incubus, I thought Crow Left of the Murder was a great move for them. That was the direction I thought they needed to move and really showed them growing up. Light Grenades is HEAVY on LIGHT and LIGHT on GRENADES. It really has no soul and nothing to grab onto. It's just an empty disc with a track or two that are worth listening to. I haven't listened to the disc since it first came out. I was hoping Brandon and the boys would channel a little more angst about the state of the world and put aside the teenage emotions. Perhaps that's as far as they are capable of going. Let's get back to more Megolmaniac style writing and passion. Light Grenades is a major DUD.

2) Single is Great!! but the cd itself sucks   [Rating: 2 out of 5]
I was excited when i first heard the single ANna Molly, i mean whats not to like. But as soon as i listened to some of the other songs on the cd i was disapointed quickly. I don't know what they were thinking putting out a really good single to get people to buy the album, than there is just a bunch of crap to disapoint people who bought? I think some people just made a mistake letting all the crappy songs on a cd that people had to buy just for a bunch of disapointing songs.

Incubus is awesome. Light Grenades is awesome. It's a little more mellow than some of their other albums, but still super rocks. Incubus consistently puts out albums where every single song is amazing, and this is definitely one of those.

4) Not the Best...   [Rating: 3 out of 5]
...but Incubus cannot fail. I have yet to find a person who hates Incubus. Who could? They are undeniably one of the greatest "metal" bands of all time. K, that's unfair. They are a metal band, completely. But on Light Grenades it's hard to classify it that way. There are so many ideas poured onto the album that it gets lost in it's own exploration. Where LG shines, it really shines. Dig is still one of my absolute favorite songs of all time. And i get so much crap for it. But no other band can churn out hit after hit like Incubus can. Anna-Molly, Love Hurts, and Diamonds and Coal are other true classics. But after that things get murky. Most diehard Incubus fans ate up this album like a KFC chicen bowl. Or something. I, however, did not fall for it. There are too many weak points. Both ETB songs are awful. Brandon Boyd always shines, he's one of the best lead men of all time. That's why people love Incubus. But oftentimes I have to find myself a social anebriant to be able to enjoy their material. Even the great songs on the album begin to wear thin after enough time. That's why I was thoroughly disappointed by their concert at Red Rocks, which was so much Light Grenades and not a whole lot else. At the same time, there were at least songs from Morning View and ACLOTM there.Point is, this album is pretty darn good. Morning View and A Crow Left of the Murder are so much better. It's because Brandon Boyd and co. are seemingly now the new romantics of the rock world. Great for any Incubus fan. But if your on the edge about them, start elsewhere. Incubus was a band that took me forever to appreciate, and i now consider them to be one of the greatest bands ever.

THIS BAND WILL BE AROUND A LONG TIME...THEIR MUSIC IS INVENTIVE AND GREAT TO LISITEN TOO...IN TODAYS WORLD OF NO TALENT THIS BAND IS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR A MUST FOR ANY MUSIC LOVERS COLLECTION
