1) Album Description
Convenient new size...Still f***ing huge! Metallica's Live Sh*t: Binge & Purge - the unprecendented box set featuring three complete concerts on three CD's and three VHS tapes, more than eight hours of live Metallica - is now being made available on three CD's and two DVD's at a special price. This colossal box has sold an incredible 613,000 copies since its 1993 release, and this reissue is sure to swell the ranks of those blown away by these shows. Nothing gets left behind -- the complete original 72-page full-color book is even included on DVD 2, and the commemorative backstage pass and scary guy stencil are enclosed as well. It's a one-two-three punch unmatched by any band, before or since, and the perfect gift for that special someone who needs their ass kicked hard by the world's greatest rock & roll band.

1) Rip roaring live offering   [Rating: 4 out of 5]
Not much of a live album fan myself. But sometimes the versions on live albums can sound more full blooded than some creaky studio take from circa 1976. And sometimes you'll get a song that really comes alive on stage. But every now and again one comes along that even I'll feel obliged to pick up and this is one of them.Metallica sure had the history and the catalogue to put on a fine performance come live album time. And they prove it on this triple CD spread (ha, beat that you old 70's live albums you!). Going into critical minutia is sort of pointless - just look at the track listing and it'll speak for itself. What I would like to point out are a couple of aspects that may sway your decision.Firstly the production values are good. Traditional, heavy and full range. Secondly pretty much all the bands hits are here - it really is a good collection of tunes and very indicative of their live experience (saw the tour for the black album in Sydney, Australia) and if you can filter out James' rather pathetic and annoying between song banter then it pretty much shows the band as a well oiled machine ripping it up, swerving all over their back catalogue in search of the next circle pit anthem.Thirdly this release is a darn good representation of the pre Load era Metallica. There is the live DVD Cunning Stunts that came out some years later, but to my knowledge that wasn't accompanied by a straight CD release. So in the same way that Iron Maidens Live at Donnington could be seen to be the culmination of their rise and rise through the 80's this can also be viewed as an excellently timed summation of where Metallica were at as a live band at the culmination of their own rise to world dominance. Or at the least the metal community. So there you go, my critical two cents worth and overall my advice is to buy it especially if you can score it cheap as if your a fan of the band you won't be disappointed in the slightest.

2) The next to the last great effort from Metallica   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
If you have never seen this concert set before, you are in for a surprise. The ....And Justice For All live DVD is enough to make this set worth every penny spent. This concert shows Metallica at their best (except I think if Cliff Burton had survived his tragedy this Disc set would have been even better.) The Black album concert is fair but not as flashing as the ...And Justice For All concert. Even the C.D.'s are quite a trill, if you bypass the back to back solos. I especially was shocked the first time I heard this set since it includes "So What" (a song that was unreleased in the Metallica Catalog prior to this sets original release.) Like this review states this was one of the last great efforts form this band (Okay Okay Garage Inc. was great, but everything else wince this Box set has sucked. Just hope their new bassiest will bring back this one time great band.)

3) Hmmm   [Rating: 4 out of 5]
I rarely listen to Metallica, but I do like everything they did up until the Black Album. I know call me a hyprocrite right now and throw the review out the window. This boxset is done well, and I had no problem with the sound on the dvd. The problem I had is the way the cds and dvds are presented. The case is terriable, and the cds just fall out and might get scratched. The booklet is a a complete waste; To review the orignal booklet, you can on the second dvd. Its great material, but the price is a little steep. I did buy it used, but the price I paid for it was probably what the asking price should be.

4) One of my favorites!!   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
I live with regrets now after hearing this music. I was never a really big fan of theirs and owned none of their music. I am, however, a big 'live' music fan of all types. If it's good live, I like the band!I thought this set was FANTASTIC! My regrets are that I never went to see them live when I had the chances. Big mistake. This is truly a great musical set. For those true Metallica fans, good for you for being there before, during and after these concerts. You've seen one of the greatest Rock and Roll bands to walk the earth. Truly a great buy!!!!

5) I was there !!!!   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
What can you say when your favorite band issues a record of the concert they played at your city ?? there's no way to be objective and neutral, this is for me the best live record ever made, in the peak of Metallica's career, with an audience (Mexico City) that waited for 15 years to see Metallica live so you can feel the people extasis on each track. Some of you may not be aware that Metallica was supposed to play only 2 dates in Mexico City but they sold out both concerts in 2 hours (50,000 tickets), so they cancelled Hawaii and stayed to play 3 more nights. I attended two of the nights and saw people outside the arena trading jewelry and watches for a ticket, absolutely crazy. Metallica changed the track list every night, and this record has the best pieces of each of the five concerts. A must to have for any Metalli-fan. The only negative is that the boxset only contains audio from Mexico City, not a single video.Man, I felt myself nostalgic.
