Editorial Reviews (supplied by Amazon.com):

1) Amazon.com essential recording
One of the defining albums of thrash metal, Master of Puppets is arguably Metallica's best album (as well as their last with bassist Cliff Burton). Focusing on the concept of power and abuses thereof, this is a collection of complex, intelligent music, played at about a hundred miles an hour. Not that these are short songs; this eight-song album clocks in at over an hour, which makes it all the more impressive that not one moment on this recording is boring. In tackling various approaches to their subject, Metallica is insightful lyrically as well as musically: "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" is from the point of view of an institutionalized inmate and "Disposable Heroes" is the perspective of a soldier. If all you've heard of Metallica is what's been on the radio recently, check this one out. You're in for a surprise. --Genevieve Williams

1) Mind-Boggingly Brilliant Album - Metallica's Best   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Everything relevant about this masterpiece has already been stated in one way or another. This is one of those albums that is so good that it sounds just as intense and fresh in 2008 as it 22 years ago. The band was firing on all cylinders and displayed an amazing level of cohesion and maturity, considering that they were still in their mid-20s. Cliff would tragically leave us and Lars, Kirk and James would mellow a bit in the next decade, but MOP is THE definitive metal album.

2) Master of muppets pulling your thing.....making you gasp making you sing!!   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Such timeless classics as diposable zeroes, sanatory...."let me pee", oreo, the thing that could not pee, flattery, and who can forget... leper vag-inah......"bow to leper vagi-nah".......all joking aside, I love this album, like alltheir past efforts, it is a classic and should not be absent in anyone's library, especially if you consider yourself a metalhead!!

3) Master of Puppets I'm Pulling Your Strings...   [Rating: 4 out of 5]
Metallica were indeed the puppetmasters on this very heavy metal release. The album cover speaks volumes, a field of white crosses attached to hands in the sky sporting strings with which to control the puppets. This album reeks of power in it's production values and in many of it's lyrical concerns. Just like And Justice For All this is an album that could in many ways be representative of much of the metal genre in terms of it's communication of ideas through sheer musical brute force. I guess in later years this would of been described as true metal, or traditional metal. The band here achieve that state where a band can address a number of issues yet still have their album sound right when taken as a whole, the entire NWOHM concept renewed, invigorated to a new level. That's not to say that this album is flawless, Metallica always managed to get by with a bunch of filler tunes per album but dress things up to look like the thing was the `all killer, no filler' real deal. And this album is no different. Tunes like Disposable Heroes at 8:14 is overlong and not really biting enough. All my musician mates liked Orion but it just sounded like noise to me - I preferred the Rodrigo Y Gabriela acoustic version myself as I always felt Metallica circa 1986 weren't quite up to the task of creating over eight minutes of really interesting instrumental music. But there is no arguing with Batter, a right facemelter of a tune. And the title track is a metal tour de force. There is some nice layered guitar riffs to be found in Welcome Home (Sanitarium) and Damage, Inc is somewhat amusing while not surrendering it's heaviness quotient. All up this to me is sort of the start of Metallicas golden run, which they'd continue with on And Justice For All and then take to a new level commercially with the black album. An arresting listen even if it does miss the mark a touch in places and certainly any metallica fans collection isn't complete until they get this album. Total newcomers, if any exist, would perhaps be better served heading to either the debut or the aforementioned black album as a starting point and working from there as this may be a little dense for the novice.

4) MASTER OF GREAT MUSIC   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
As you can see that Master of Puppets is one of the Metallica's greatest albums, we all know that. The cd begins with BAttery a kick @$$ tune. Orion is my favorite instrumental of all time which was the very first instrumental that i listened to. Other great songs like Master of Puppets, The Thing That Should Not Be, and Welcome Home (Sanitarium) are metal classics! A highly recommended cd to all music fans.

5) Classic Metallica   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
One of the best albums they ever released. Amazing hits on this one. Every guitar fan should check it out. Also if you love Kirk Hammetts guitar work and soloing, then check out the Ride the lightning Cd (Metallica '84)
