"A Perfect Circle is not a side project," proclaim the members of Perfect Circle. It's a caution worth heeding, since the most identifiable name in the band is that of vocalist Maynard James Keenan, lead singer of Tool. On the other hand, one wouldn't be much inclined to file this one under "side project" anyway. The musicians involved go to great lengths to create something distinctive, and if the uniformity of sound can be attributed to the fact that guitarist Billy Howerdel (whose previous songwriting credits include Tool, the Smashing Pumpkins, and David Bowie) is responsible for the lion's share of the music, well, the others aren't exactly marching in lockstep. Keenan's vocals here are quite different from anything heard from him before. Subtle, thoughtful, sober, they're a far cry from Keenan's work with Tool, which is what makes this album more than a side-project curiosity. Mer de Noms has a life all its own. --Genevieve Williams

"The Hollow" gave me hope. This album saved me in a of ways. Very powerful music. Music with an agenda that is left for the listener to determine. Awesome. 5 BIG STARS

I can listen to this entire album every day... at least ...and never get sick of it.

Maynard as the front man, this CD has the same quality as tool. The first time you listen you will not grasp the depth of the lyrics, however after a few listens it becomes the music you sing to yourself. If you are into thrashing rock, this may have a single track for you, however if your into depth of lyrics this is your CD, and in fact music group. The violin is a nice touch to the rock sound as well.

This is one of those rare classic albums that comes out once in a great while. I kinda stumbled upon this before they became big only because I saw Maynard was lead singer on this as well and believe me I was so suprised at how awesome this cd was. This is not tool. This is a perfect circle and are insanely awesome for completely different reasons. This instantly hits you and sucks you in. Highly recommended

If like me you like Tool's music but want something more melodic you will enjoy this album. Maynard is definately one of the best singers in the world, and in A Perfect Circle he shows a gentler side of his voice which is very refreshing to hear.
