Dido's debut is molded from Sarah McLachlan's intimate soul, Sinéad O'Connor's Celtic yelp, and Beth Orton's morose resolve--with all the sharp edges rounded out. Sculpted by producers Rollo (her brother) and techno-scientist Youth, No Angel is dream-pop mixed with Portishead-esque trip-hop; the results are midtempo ballads that would feel at home in Seal's neighborhood. The melancholy opener, "Here with Me," incorporates acoustic rhythm guitar, fluid strings, and a snare-driven tempo that simulates the slapping of rain off a windshield. "My Lover's Gone" is ethereal and misty, sounding at once ancient and modern with its synthesized ocean sounds and seagull cries. The only clunker is "Don't Think of Me," a passive, soft-bellied cousin to Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know." These songs play out beautifully in that quiet zone between slumber and consciousness--where you can see everything behind closed eyes. --Beth Massa

Average Customer Rating: 4.5 out of 5
1) Eh.... [Rating: 3 out of 5]
I saw Dido in concert, and the spark and variety she showed in concert is not reflected in this CD. This Cd has not stood up to the test of time. After a few listens, although her voice is pleasant and music is relaxing, it becomes monotonous.2) A remarkable album [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Dido has this sensual voice that you fall for within the first seconds of listening to her songs. And this first album of hers is incredible! There is not a single song on the entire album that I don't like. And there are 12!I totally recommend it to anybody, no matter what kind of music you like!3) Honestly ok [Rating: 4 out of 5]
There aren't a lot of pop singers out there that I think is worth listening to. Most I find to be artistically changelleged. One of the few pop singers I do like is Dido. I first discovered her through the UK dance act Faithless. Her brother Rollo would often include her vocals on the group's songs. I later discovered her through cable tv and saw that she was a solo artist. "No Angel" is a pleasant but predictable mix of trip hop, pop, and folk music. The one song I cannot listen to any more is "Thank You" and that is because it was overplayed on radio stations 24/7 after Eminem's "Stan" (which took samples from "Thank You") became a smash hit. My personal favorite track on the cd is the folksy "Don't Think". I find the song addictively catchy and the melodies stick in my head for days on end. I also enjoy the haunting track "Here with Me". Sure the song is commonly found on many chill out compilations and soundtracks but it wasn't as annoying as "Thank You". Yeah the music is bit bland and inoffensive, and isn't the best representation of what trip hop music is. For all its quibbles, I still enjoy this cd to this very day. I find the music very soothing and relaxing to listen to on a snowy, winter day.4) Dido's greatest album [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Love this album especially the "Here with Me" (a big Roswell fan) and also her voice.5) relax and enjoy [Rating: 3 out of 5]
I listen to this cd to unwind or relax after work. It's great as a destresser. I would recommend it. My favorites are 1,5,10.
