Switchfoot is the classic eight-year "overnight success" story. With a pocketful of radio hits, award nominations, and multi-platinum status, the band's Beautiful Letdown in 2003 introduced Switchfoot to a whole new world. But let's keep in mind that prior to the massive success, the San Diego-based band honed its chops with constant touring and three solid independent albums. Nothing Is Sound lives up to expectations with plenty of guitar-driven alternative rock bound to keep everyone happy. And that is the irony here as lead man Jon Foreman continues to sing about loneliness, alienation, and disenchantment in the land of plenty. "Lonely Nation," "Stars," and "The Fatal Wound" paint a bleak picture of a generation gripped by greed but remaining unsatisfied. Yet with every dark stroke, Foreman casts an eye toward a brighter tomorrow with hopeful lines like "I don't believe the emptiness/I'm looking for the kingdom coming down" in "Happy Is A Yuppie Word" and "Though the world is flawed these scars will heal/We are one tonight" in "We Are One Tonight." Foreman's ever-improving songwriting is enhanced by rich, lush production and a driving rhythm section of bassist Tim Foreman and drummer Chad Butler. Newer members Jerome Fontamillas (keys) and Andrew Shirley (guitars) fill out the empty spots well, giving Switchfoot a shimmering sonic glow on this superb release. This is another leap forward for one of rock's most promising bands. --Michael Lyttle

1) I am a HUGE Switchfoot fan... you will love this album. Trust me . [Rating: 5 out of 5]
This is my personal FAVORITE album ever. This is definetely the best album that Switchfoot has put out. Here are some of my views on the songs...1. Lonely Nation: I think it was the best way to start the album. i love a good rock song and it shows how switchfoot has matured.2. Stars: I love this one!!!! one of my favorites. I think i love the night sky even more now since i've heard this song. Love the guitars... everything.3. Happy is a yuppie word: Amazing lyrics! this song has opened up me mind to understanding that there's more to life than the things that simple cash can buy. "Everything is meaningless..." Love the piano in the background here.4.The Shadow Proves the Sunshine: Love the story behind this one (watch the video on the dualdisc to see...) This song has very thought-provoking lyrics. i felt at hoem with this song. definetely sounds like something i would write.5.Easier than Love: Again, i love a good rock riff. The guitars on this song are hott, just that the lyrics are you know... awkward. but it does have a good message. people should look for more than just pleasure and they should look more for the purpose that God has for you in your love life.6.The Blues: My personal favorite. The soft pianos, guitars, everything is just gorgeous. I like how soothing it is. I especially love the rawness and honesty of Jon's voice.7. The setting sun: This song makes me wanna go to the beach. I REALLY LOVE the guitars for this one. I love that key change in the middle.. it rocks. a good listen.8.Politicians: One of my favorites, and definetely the most aggressive and heavy tune on the record. so much fun to listen to in my room all by myself. 9.Golden: A bit more low-key, but still a good song. I didn't really like this one at first, but after a couple listens i liked it better. this one's just there, i guess.10.The Fatal Wound: I like this one for its "darkness". This one's cool because of the harmonica(again, if you watch the dualdisc video, u see Jon w/ a guitar and a harmonica writing this song) I like the low piano... a good tune11. We are One Tonight: I like the video for this one. I didn't really understand the message at first, but i fot it after a while. This one has a different sound to it. I like it. good song.12.Daisy: I love this one. I like the irony in this song, how the beginning is so sparse and pretty and how the end is like a big rock out moment. The end is one of my favorite rock moments on the album. i thought it was really good to end the album with a song about letting go. really good song.If you buy this album, you will definetly not regret it!!!By the way, Jon is pretty cute but he just had to go get married. Darn. JK. But Tim, He's hot. Really. But too bad he's married too.2) This Album is Very Good [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Eventhough it's a real pain in the butt to download on your PC,it's a wonderful achievment. My favorite songs are "Stars,""Easier Than Love," and "Politicians." "Easier Than Love" might be considered inappropriate for young children, because it usesthe word "sex." However, it has a very exellent point. These songs I like are like the songs on "The Beautiful Letdown," an album Switchfoot did before this one.The singer/composer in Switchfoot, Jon Foreman, is an exellent and intelligent man. He's also very cute! Did he have to go get married!? His brother, Tim, the bass player, is also cute, but he's married, too. I hope you all enjoy the album.3) THE BEST [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Nothing is Sound is my favorite album. It's filled with rock songs and not one of the songs are terrible. I highly suggest buying this for anyone!!4) Nothing is Sound [Rating: 5 out of 5]
By far the best album Switchfoot has put out so far, Golden (track 9) is a little weak, but the rest is just amazing. The blues (track 6) is the best song i have ever heard. The songs have the same fight against traditional society as their second album, New Way To Be Human, but with the music behind it all much better. In fact i think this is the best collection of songs to ever be put on the same cd, just make sure you buy the one that won't destroy your computer. (I so hope that The Blues gets released as a single)5) Switchfoot's best and most intelligent album to date [Rating: 5 out of 5]
"Nothing is Sound" continue's Switchfoot's successful effort to throw out lyrics that will make you say, "Hmmm..." In their latest album, they have done an even better job than before in that aspect. Additionally, the guitar riffs are more unique, and every time you listen you'll discover more and more riffs. 1. Lonely Nation (8.5/10): A great way to start the album and show how Switchfoot has matured.2. Stars (9/10): Switchfoot's newest single is the most like its older songs.3. Happy is a Yuppie Word (8/10): I didn't like this song at first but enjoy it more and more with each listen.4. The Shadow Proves the Sunshine (9/10): Simple yet thought-provoking lyrics are complimented by the subtle melody.5. Easier than Love (9/10): Perhaps Switchfoot's next new single. Promotes a great message about how people fill their love lives with pleasure instead of the true love God intended for us.6. The Blues (9.5/10): My personal favorite on the album. The lyrics are outstanding and the music, which includes subtle guitar tones and piano, is absolutely beautiful.7. The Setting Sun (9/10): This track is simply fun to listen to. 8. Politicians (8/10): A song I didn't like at first but am acquiring a taste to with every listen.9. Golden (8.5/10): Like 'The Setting Sun', 'Golden' is just a fun listen. The lyrics are nothing spectacular but the upbeat melody makes up for it.10. The Fatal Wound (8/10): This song is pretty good but not anything special.11. We Are One Tonight (9/10): Another fun song.12. Daisy (7/10): My least favorite on the album. Why do CDs always end with the most boring track?
