Radiohead's third album got compared to Pink Floyd a lot when it came out, and its slow drama and conceptual sweep certainly put it in that category. OK Computer, though, is a complicated and difficult record: an album about the way machines dehumanize people that's almost entirely un-electronic; an album by a British "new wave of new wave" band that rejects speed and hooks in favor of languorous texture and morose details; a sad and humanist record whose central moment is Thom Yorke crooning "We hope that you choke." Sluggish, understated, and hard to get a grip on, OK Computer takes a few listens to appreciate, but its entirety means more than any one song. --Douglas Wolk

1) Perfection ... maybe.   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
A far as greatness goes, this album seems to throw the idea at you with the force of a jackhammer. The album is timeless. It's greatness is derived by the fact that they make it seem effortless. Hauntingly beautiful I told somebody once. It's indescribable in words. You have to listen to it by yourself, uninterrupted for it's full effect. You don't dance to this, you listen to it. The music is the key to everything. Thom's voice is something to behold. Full of emotion. Minimal but demanding. His range is phenominal. This is the definative Radiohead album. This being one of my favorite albums of all time, all tracks are recommended. It all works so well together. This is one of those albums where you can't imagine the track order any different. Simply phenominal.

2) Greatest Album I've Heard   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
While my taste in music varies wildly from Classical to Jazz to Metal, one album that I find myself constantly returning to is OK Computer. I listen to Radiohead in general a great deal but OK Computer is thier best release in my opinion. My favorite tracks on the album are Lucky and Paranoid Android. There are a few albums and books that I push on all my friends and family and this is one of them. Seriously, do what you have to in order to hear this music if you haven't already. It could change your life.

3) "Don't mistake lack of talent for genuis"   [Rating: 1 out of 5]
I've tried to like Radiohead for a long time now. I've really tried. But I just can't, and it amazes me that they've pulled the wool over the eyes of the majority of the world. I think people like this band because other people have told them they should, not because they're actually a good band. This is the most bland muzak ever created. There's no skilled musicianship and no hooks, nothing to listen for, and they're fronted by a guy who couldn't sing his way out of a paper bag. I couldn't think of a more highly overrated band. Best band on the planet? These guys aren't even the best band in their own genre. Look to bands like Coldplay or Catherine Wheel for decent Brit Art Pop. Seriously, Radiohead fans, these guys have you all fooled!

4) Radiohead - Continuing The Progressive Rock Legacy   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Radiohead are progressive rock for the new millennium. Old school prog rock fans may not want to admit it, but what this band does is every bit a groundbreaking as their counterparts back in the 70's. Thom York's voice may take a bit of getting used to, and instrumentally they are not flashy, but these guys make challenging music that begs for a serious listen. "Ok Computer" is probably their best album, and although it is not really commercial at all it did receive a significant amount of attention from radio which considering the material here is encouraging. The music is a mix of electronic, alternative, and progressive rock. The band (and especially this album) seems to get lumped in with Pink Floyd a lot and I can see the comparison. Raidohead really does not sound that much like Floyd, but more like what Floyd might sound like had they formed in the 90's instead of the 60's. The album is a concept piece that about human's alienation from society that flows together as a cohesive whole. You will get much more out of it listening to it as an entire album than as individual tracks. The bottom line is I really enjoy this album and it is nice to see people getting behind something that is truly an alternative to most of the crap heard on the radio today.

5) One of my fave albums of all time   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
With OK Computer, Radiohead created something new--something different. This is not a collection of catchy pop songs (except maybe Karma Police). They started moving into a new direction. Not just new for Radiohead--but new for mankind. I buy new albums all the time, but rarely do I feel a new album is taking me into uncharted territory. OK Computer to me was exciting because it stood apart from all the other music I knew at the time.OK Computer is an experiment which I've enjoyed. To me it is one of the most important albums of its time. Not everyone will like it, thank god. If you do like OK Computer, I suggest you next follow Radiohead further down this path with Kid A and Amnesiac. Radiohead evolves from a straight forward rock band in The Bends to a twitchy, uneasy feeling surrounded by technology--out of place blips and beeps--with occasional moments of spiritual calm or convergance. However you describe it, it works for me.
