Editorial Reviews (supplied by Amazon.com):

1) Album Description
Taking Back Sunday draws forth images of what would be born of a marriage between Thursday and Saves The Day. The songs feature passionate, heartfelt lyrics that any listener easily identifies with. In December 2001,Victory Records signed Taking Back Sunday and put them in the skillful hands of producer Sal Villanueva and engineer Tim Gilles (Thursday's 'Full Collapse'). The result is a beautiful blend of passion, emotion and sincerity that is unrivaled in the budding emo-rock scene today. "Tell All Your Friends" is truly destined to be one of the breakout albums of 2002.

1) The best   [Rating: 4 out of 5]
Some of the reviews claim Taking Back Sunday is the best thing to happen to American music. I won't go that far though I do love every cd they've released so far. Taking Back Sunday helped create the whole emotional (or "emo") music movement with "Tell All Your Friends". You either loved them or you hated them, but you'd hard pressed to find someone who never heard of them. This cd was very good but did have a few kinks in it. There was also a couple songs I couldn't get out of my head. So overall, I would give this album 4 stars just because of the few songs that didnt stick. However some of the songs are more than 5 stars, like Great Romances Of The 20th Century, You're So Last Summer and Timberwolves at New Jersey. Those songs are as close to perfect as you can get.

2) Amazing   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Well this the first time I have ever wanted to write a review about an album. Wow what can I say about Taking Back Sunday. These guys are so lyrically Talented that it's scary. I was recommended to check out TBS by one of my friends and all I can say is how or why did it take this long for me to listen to this awsome band? This is such a superb album. I was hook after hearing the first song "You know how I do" and couldn't stop listing until the very last song "Head Club" and still I yearned for more. I have never heard a band so lyrically talented and emotional about there music. All I can say is I can't wait to listen to the other albums and am definitely looking forward in the feature to seeing these guys live. This is my new favorite band and will probably be for the next decade. A++

3) The first time around stuck out the most   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
I was introduced to TBS the summer of 2004. I received a copy of TAYF from my cousin who wouldnt stop talking about them. I grew up listening to mainstream music and a lot of radio and billboard hits. In other words I lived a very sheltered "music life." Upon listening to this cd, that all changed. I credit TBS to my musical taste i have now. I have a cd collection that spreads through about 5 or 6 cd booklets, not to mention about 8 days worth of songs on my itunes to boot, with just about every genre from country to nu-metal to hip hop. I have listened to this cd so many times that i literally had to make 2 or 3 more copies because my original became so beat up and worn in. I will never get tired of this cd because it caused a renaissance in my music outlook. As for taking back sunday as a group, they are still my favorite band. I have all three of their cds and they all get decent play time in my ipod/cd player/computer. But there is something about TAYF that just out does the latter two efforts by the group. Their sound, if you ask me, hasnt really changed too much over the years. Maybe its because of the hidden potential in this cd that was later discovered in their 3rd effort of Louder Now, but this cd was where it all began and I think its a masterpiece. I am yet to come across another cd that does for me what this one has. I can relate personally to most of these songs and that may be why I may be biased towards it. But all fans of TBS that have been with them since day one and heard all three cds will probably agree with me when i say this is the best one out there. If you dont own it, its never too late. Every song from beginning to end has its own good qualities (the lyrics and vocals are amazing in this cd) and i never hit the skip button when the album plays. It will only improve your collection.

4) Taking Back Sunday-Tell All Your Friends (an unbiased review)   [Rating: 3 out of 5]
First, let me start off by saying that this is an unbiased review. I'm not a fan of the band nor do I dislike the band. I'm a fan of all types of music. I also won't be comparing this album to any other albums from the band. This review will be strictly on this particular album. Now onto the review. Here's a breakdown of the songs:You Know How I Do-As the title track, this song leaves little to be desired. The guitars and the drums in certain parts of the song are all over the place and it's hard to pay attention to the lyrics when they're being drowned out by the instruments. The bridge is the same way. The lyrics are boring and repetitive. The chorus is nothing to be happy about as it's one line repeated over and over again.Bike Scene-The best part of this song is the chorus. The problem is that it's almost too short. When you listen to this song, you almost can't even pinpoint where the chorus is because it bleeds together with the verses. The lyrics are cute, yet strong. One other thing that annoys me about this song is it doesn't sound finished. The vocals are sometimes pitchy and it irritates me because the song could've been so much better if it weren't for that flaw. Overall, this is a decent song and it's not one I'd skip over.Cute Without the E (Cut From the Team)-One of the better songs on the album. I'm a sucker for the chorus. My problem is that there's not enough of it. The end of the song is so monotonous and you're just begging for another round of the chorus to break it up. The ending killed this song. Again with the repetitive lyrics (could they not have come up with more than two verses of original lyrics?). And again with the unfinished-sounding vocals. This song could have been good if not for the looong ending. There's No I In Team-I love how the guitars sound different in this song compared to the other songs. Now that we got the positive things out of the way, let's talk about why this song gives me such a headache. First of all, unless you have the lyrics in front of you, you'll never know what they're saying. With the whiny vocals and the yelling and the guitars, it all becomes one big blur. Furthermore, the chorus is nothing special. I was waiting for something to pull me in but I got nothing. The lyrics are cute, I will say that. Other than that, this song is one I'd skip over.Great Romances of the 20th Century-The one song that I don't mind on the album. This is what punk rock is all about. Pumped up, great lyrics, great to sing along to at the top of your lungs. If there's one song on this album that I'd suggest listening to, it would be this one.Ghost Man on Third-Another song that I enjoy listening to. It's definitely the most strong and powerful song on the album. I only wish the chorus could be stronger (and longer) than the rest of the song as it tends to blend in with the rest of the song.Timberwolves At New Jersey-Pretty good song. I like how the lead vocalist sings the verses. As always, the lyrics are repetitive and the overlapping of the vocals is annoying. However, when it comes to pumping me up, it does the trick. The Blue Channel-Looove the piano at the beginning of the song. I also love that the guitars sound harder in this song compared to the other songs. Of course we have the repetitive lyrics again, the chorus is pretty boring, the song is short, and there's absolutely no climax in the song. You're So Last Summer-The lyrics are cute and I love the bass in the song. Overall, it's an ok song. We have the same issues in this song as the others.Head Club-One of the few songs on this album that's not monotonous. I hatethat many of the other songs are basically on one key and the lead vocalist doesn't go anywhere near his lower register. Except for this song. We get to see a little bit of that. Same issues, what's new?My verdict 3/5 stars. This album isn't anything special. There are only a couple songs on this album that stand out. The majority sound the same and are on one key. One thing that I noticed is that a good portion of the album sounds underproduced. Also, the lyrics are so darn repetitive. Bridges are repeated 3 or 4 times which is absolutely ridiculous. The choruses are not the high points of the songs like they should be. Rather, they blend with the rest of the songs. It's almost like they placed actual demos on a disk and called it an album. The one big thing that lowered my rating is the layering of the vocals and the instruments. At times it truly does sound like someone holding down one guitar string for a solid 15 seconds while someone is basically yelling to sing over it. It's not a pleasant sound. If I had to recommend a couple of songs to listen to on this album, they would be "Great Romances of the 20th Century" and "Ghost Man on Third". This album probably is most enjoyable as background music in my opinion. There are far better examples of good punk music out there.

5) Not bad, but not good.   [Rating: 3 out of 5]
I gave this three stars because it's just okay. I don't know why all TBS fans love this album so much. It is the sloppiest musicianship ever, and the production isn't that great. "Where You Want to Be" is sooo much better than this one. This is just my opinion!
