When David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash created this pop super trio in 1968 after their splits from the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield and The Hollies, respectively, it would have been a pipedream that a hits package released 37 years later would sound as eternal and essential as this one. The 19 songs straddle the four-album, landscape-altered timeframe between 1969's post-Woodstock debut Crosby, Stills & Nash and 1982's Daylight Again, which helped inaugurate the MTV era. Unbalanced sequencing--which randomly bounces 12 years ahead and five years back--is rescued by the superb harmonies, unique songwriting and divergent personalities of the three members. With politics and culture always at the forefront, Stills bookends the band's trademark canon with "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" and "Southern Cross," Nash incorporates Eastern influences to "Marrakesh Express" and folk timber to "Just a Song Before I Go" and "Teach Your Children," and the ever-capricious Crosby leads the way lyrically with the lingering "Delta" to the Robert Kennedy tribute "Long Time Gone." Sure, the collection is missing any songs by ("Ohio") or contributions from ("Woodstock") the fourth name on the marquee (Neil Young). Here's hoping that's for another Greatest Hits. --Scott Holter

2) Album Description
One of the most enduring musical partnerships of our time, Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Famers Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) are beloved worldwide for their peerless three-part harmonies, inspired songwriting, and brilliant musicianship. Rightfully claiming a singular place among the artistically and culturally influential acts of the original Woodstock era, CSN has been called "the voice of an entire generation."

1) A Flood of Memories   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Crosby, Stills, and Nash have long been a favorite of mine, songs stored in the recesses of my mind. This CD took me back to a time that was more carefree and innocent, where song lyrics nearly always had a message, or told a story, and musicians seemed more like next door neighbors than far away icons. I have enjoyed it many times already, and would highly recommend it! Awesome CSN legacy collection!

2) Great collection   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Having grown up with Crosby, Stills, and Nash, this album is a great collection of their greatest hits. A must for those who want the "cream."

3) Excellent choice   [Rating: 5 out of 5]
CSN is a great band for all time, the recopilation in tha cd is very good.

4) I really like this one   [Rating: 4 out of 5]
I must say that I am not an avid CSN fan. However, this is a very good compilation. I like every song on it and listen to this often. There are maybe a few additional songs that I would have liked to have on this CD, including some live stuff. However, this is really good.

5) Good, but could have been great   [Rating: 4 out of 5]
About a year ago, I bought this collection of Crosby, Stills and Nash - an all-star group of '60s music veterans whose Woodstock appearance launched them to the forefront of the folk-rock scene of the early '70s. Much is made of the fact that none of their work with Neil Young's singing is included. It would have been a good idea to include the CSNY material because as I listen to this CD, enveloped in the greatness of fine songs like "Suite:Judy blue eyes", "Helplessly hoping", "Carry on" etc., I realize that of the 19 songs in this set, there are 5 or 6 fillers that are hardly CSN classics. And, where's "Dark Star"? - a great song and probably the last great song they ever recorded. I love that song, and I can't believe it's not on the disc. As great as some of Crosby, Stills and Nash's music is, there is not a huge catalog of high-caliber music recorded by them. To make a collection like this a true must-have, it should include the Neil Young collaberations and, ideally, A few of Steve Stills and Graham Nash's best solo songs. "Immigration man" would be a superb addition! "Johnney's garden" too. In conclusion, the hum-drum fillers could have been left off in favor of much better, truly classic material making for a very exciting collection. The remastering of the old material does bring out more clarity in the vocals but the mix seems extraordinarily bass-heavy. It seems that this greatist hits collection, like so many others, leaves the true fans wanting so that they'll buy the deluxe box-set.
