1) Out of control...wow [Rating: 4 out of 5]
This is a very good track, and I really liked all of the songs, but the one that hit me hardest was out of control, which had the same effect on me as Taking Back Sunday's Error Operator, pure amazement. It's a must buy.2) Never get tired of it [Rating: 5 out of 5]
I've spun this disc twenty times at least, and every time it's just as fresh as if I just bought it. These guys are polished, tight, just great. The title track is great, but not the best on the disc in my opinion. "Disappear" is a beautiful, powerful love song, and would be great for a wedding. "Never There" is a rocking good tune about a bad relationship. Just get the disc; it's worth it.3) The Reason [Rating: 4 out of 5]
It is refreshing to hear a band come along and destroy the airwaves with a fresh brand of alternative punk-rock. The single 'The reason' was their biggest (and only) hit in Australia and introduced me to the band. I was a little hesitant to buy an album from a band that I had never heard of before on the strength of only one song but I am so glad I did. The album is packed with more potential hits and while 'The reason' is probably the standout track on the album, songs such as 'Same Direction', 'What Happened To Us?', 'Unaffected' and 'Disappear' are right up their as memorable songs on the album too.I imagine the band would sound awesome live, and I can only hope to see them live in Australia some day. If you are thinking about buying this CD, I highly recommend it. It will not go down as one of the greatest albums of all time or anuthing like that, and nor will the band be remembered as legends of rock n' roll, but this is high quality music, and an album which is good to listen too from beginning to end.4) "So what should I do, just lay next to you as though I'm unaffected?" [Rating: 4 out of 5]
A lot of people hate the song "The Reason". I'm not sure exactly why, I can understand finding the piano part repetitive or the vocals a little annoying, but I don't think it's worth such universal ire. I'm not in love with the song, but I like it for what it is. It's almost pure pop, but the rest of the album is more rock-oriented, and like the band's previous release, might not be for everyone but is pretty enjoyable all the way through. The first two tracks are both singles and fit very well into Hoobastank's pattern. Pleasant singing, a bit of shouting thrown in, crisp musicianship, catchy choruses. "What Happened To Us?" has a decent guitar part and is one of the band's more passionate songs. "Escape" is a pretty catchy song, like many of the band's. "Lucky" is another of the band's atypical songs with natural sounding guitar strumming. "From the Heart" is another solid song musically. It's hard to find songs by Hoobastank you can't say that about. There's a bit of a shift in tone after The Reason's title track. "Unaffected" is one of the best songs, it's slower paced than normal for the band and is easy to get caught up in. "Disappear" is another single, and I'm not a huge fan of it, but it shows the band is trying other things. I'm not sure why many rock fans are so down on Hoobastank, it's a little poppier and more accessible to the mainstream than a lot of bands but they still put together a good rock song. In any case, The Reason is a solid follow-up to Hoobastank's first big release.5) hoobastank need i say anymore [Rating: 2 out of 5]
you can see by the name that this band is aother coporate creation to the masses of 10 year old girls tryin' to be hip and weepin' at the sickly lyrics of "the reason" god when i first heard that song i cried..not because it's a beautiful poetic song with passion and superb word-play it's because it made me nauseous i was ready to spill my guts on the breakfast i'd just ate are these guys tryin' to be hip or are just marketted to sell buckle loads of records to the mtv for the price of the decency of rock and roll i one know it's the second there name hooba-stank is a double edged sword because when music fans see the name and cd on their local cd stores they think "well they've got to be good because they've got stank in their name and any band they purposely puts stank in their name is gonna be bad right?" WRONG yet if you like it then that's okay we all have different tastes in music and that's what makes un indivudual...
