Colombian singer-songwriter Juanes's second solo album is many things: poetic, lyrical, heartfelt, and intelligent. Ordinary, however, would not be among the list of adjectives. The humble title, Un Dia Normal, is more a description of the album's overall themes. It's a slicker and catchier collection than Juanes's politically minded 2000 album Fijate Bien, which earned seven Latin Grammy nominations and tons of critical attention. Un Dia Normal finds the former member of rock outfit Ekhymosis contemplating an array of inner emotions--primarily life, love, and loss--all anchored by Gustavo Santaolalla's tight, precise production work. "La Unica" is a sweet and tuneful love letter, while "Mala Gente" finds Juanes damning a cruel lover to hell--literally. "A Dios le Pido" is an intoxicating swirl of cumbia, reggae, and folk rhythms, but it's the bittersweet duet "Fotografia" that truly soars. Juanes's unassuming vocal style is the perfect complement to Canadian songbird Nelly Furtado's lilting soprano, creating a shining moment among an already impressive collection of gems. --Joey Guerra

I've loved Juanes since about 2001 when I saw him on the Latin Grammy's. I love Latin music and he's amazing (and hot too). His voice is great and the music is terrific. Sure, I don't necessarily know what he's singing about, but it sounds romantic and beautiful. My favourite song is A Dios Le Pido. It's great. I've got a couple of his cds, but this is the best of his. For all Latin lovers, go get this.4) Juggernaut [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Juanes' chameleon like sophomore album is a lively, youthful, highly emotional, musical spree driven by masterful guitar and his evocative, soothing yet distinctly rock voice. It's one of the few albums of any musical artist I own that I can listen to straight through. He has a slew of mellow latino pop ballads on here, immensely listenable and fresh, "Es Por Ti", "Una Dia Normal", "Dia Lejano". Perfect songs for unwinding or a leisurely drive somewhere. Then you have his experimental batch, "La Unica" (dark until it changes halfway like a break of hopeful light through the clouds), "La Paga" (a cheeky slightly reggae-ish chant), "Luna" (bouncy and fun), "La Historia de Juan" (more on this later). Driving latin rock (and dance!) songs come in the shape of "La Noche" which sounds just like you'd imagine it to (although it should have an exclamation point at the end of the title), "Desde Que Despierto" a pop-rock song which is upbeat and happy. The best songs on the album, or my favorites at least, are "Fotografia" a superb romantic pop duet with Nelly Furtado. It's just wonderful and slaps a smile on your face. Then you have his two anthems: "Mala Gente" a mischevious, rollicking, intense rocker regarding the fate of someone on their way to Hell. The second anthem, and what I think is one of Juanes' best songs, "A Dios Le Pido" a latin rocker which is intense, introspective, and a petition to God to listen to the plight of mankind and the singer's own heart. It starts with an explosion of drums and electric guitar and descends into a throbbing beat and Juanes' evocative almost chantlike belting. It's the musical equivalent to caffeine and deeply profound. Although Spanish is incredibly musical language without translation, with translation you'll find Juanes writes remarkably poetic lyrics. Additionally, his messages are highly socially conscious. As an artist he uses his position to make a difference in the world and this is apparent in most of his songs. He speaks against violence and injustice. The throbbing driving ballad "La Historia De Juan" (another favorite of mine) is literally the story of a young man from the streets who is forgotten, but could have offered the world so much. Not only is it heartbreaking, but the rhythm and style of the song is peculiar and experimental. This is what makes Juanes one of the great musicians working today, he writes about things we don't often think about and uses an intense and immense world of musical styles as his tools, but always leaving his brand on it. His creativity, verstility -- and pathos -- set him apart.5) HE IS THE BEST HE IS SOOOOOOOOO GOOD [Rating: 5 out of 5]
This CD is one of the best CD's I own! and the book SEX AND THE PERFECT LOVER BY MABEL IAM, it is in spanish. I LOVE IT
