1) Product Description
Winner of six awards, including a gold N.A.P.P.A. Award and a Parent's Choice Silver Honor, "Under a Shady Tree" is Laurie's "most accomplished recording yet," according to Publisher's Weekly. From the reggae-influenced title track to the gently lilting Hawaiian melodies on "Mahalo," these sunny (and addictive) songs will have adults tapping their toes too! Do the dragon, drive your car and celebrate your individuality.Songs:Under a Shady TreeRhubarb Pie (Hot Commodity)MisterDrive My CarI'm Gonna Catch YouJust Like the SunMahaloI'm Me and You're YouChoc-O-Lot in My Pock-O-LotShortenin'' BreadRunning Down the HillMy EnergyAfter It RainsDo the DragonSong in My TummyThis HatWho's That'SmileBoody BoodyBlow a Kiss2) Amazon.com
From the reggae-tinged title track to the light blues of "Drive My Car" to the irresistible tease of "I'm Gonna Catch You" and at all stops in between, the 20 tracks on Laurie Berkner's fourth record for kids dance off the disc and into the imagination, with a Goldilocks just-right ratio of silly ("Do the Dragon") and serious ("I'm Me and You're You"). Driving home her reputation as an Ani DiFranco for kids is the earthy "Running Down the Hill." "Shortnin' Bread," the Southern traditional, will compel kids to tie on aprons and tap their way across the kitchen floor. The Hawaiian thank-you number "Mahalo" and the Eastern "Boody Boody Ya Ya Ya" draw upon world music, but otherwise, Berkner's days of shaking her noodle head (a favorite dance ditty off an earlier disc) to the delight of 2-year-olds seem numbered. That's not to say Shady Tree's canopy doesn't extend to the sippy-cup crowd, only that Berkner's branching out. --Tammy La Gorce

1) Laurie has done it again! [Rating: 5 out of 5]
My son LOVES this CD! The best thing about it is that it isn't annoying to listen to in the car or anywhere for that matter! These songs are fun and silly, but not grating on my nerves when I'm on the go! Very entertaining and fun for kids!2) My kids love this cd! [Rating: 5 out of 5]
My kids (ages 5,3 and 15 mos.) love this cd and I personally think it is an easy listen for parents too, especially compared to most of the other children's cds in our collection. I absolutely recommend this cd.3) My daughter loves it - what else matters? [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Any parent with a small child will know my pain. Kids love things that are familiar and repetition. My daughter wants to listen to this CD over and over again. It gets her signing and rocking back and forth in her car seat, so obviously that makes me happy. At the same time, that repetition of music ends up driving a parent nuts as you end up finding yourself humming the melodies of songs (that for the most part make no sense) to yourself when you are alone, or worse, in the presence of others - who ultimately ask you what you are doing and force you to explain the Rhubarb Pie song.Bottom line is this works for little kids very well and I painfully recommend it.4) Great music for the kids! [Rating: 5 out of 5]
This CD is fabulous. I have a 7 year old daughter and a 19 month old son. Both just light up when I play it in the car. My daughter loves to sing along while my son just claps and sways to the music. Laurie Berkner's style is so that not only do kids love her music but as an adult I can listen to it without feeling like my head is going to explode after the 50th time listening to it. Her rhythms are diverse and very adult friendly. LOVE HER!!!5) A refreshing change... [Rating: 5 out of 5]
Yes, a CD that even mom can listen to over and over. Pleasant catchy tunes that don't annoy....we've had this one for a couple years now and still enjoy it. Great creativity. And it keeps me from having to listen to the Wiggles!
